Summary

  • Quick Play: Hacked Double Trouble allows teams to have two copies of the same hero for 24 hours in Overwatch 2.
  • Players can experience the new game mode in both Role Queue and Open Queue but must act fast before it ends.
  • Overwatch 2 introduces experiments like Double Trouble to mix up gameplay, giving fans new challenges to try.

Overwatch 2 just began its second Quick Play: Hacked experiment, Double Trouble, for a limited time. For the next 24 hours, gamers who jump into Quick Play in Overwatch 2 can share heroes by having up to two copies of each character on a single team.

Quick Play: Hacked is a new Overwatch 2 feature where the casual game mode is replaced or altered with some sort of change. The first experiment, called Quicker Play, decreased spawn times and sped up capture, push, and score rates, making games go much faster. Recently, Overwatch 2 revealed it was planning its second Quick Play: Hacked event, which would take place later on in Season 9.

Now, Overwatch 2 has surprised fans by suddenly starting the next Quick Play: Hacked. Called Double Trouble, two players in this Quick Play game mode can choose the same hero on the same team. This new ruleset is available in both Role Queue and Open Queue, but only for the next 24 hours. At 11 AM PDT on Tuesday, March 19, Double Trouble will end, so fans interested in trying out the new game mode will have to act fast.

New OW2 Quick Play: Hacked is Live for 24 Hours

  • Quick Play: Hacked Double Trouble runs from March 18 at 11 AM PDT to March 19 at 11 AM PDT.
  • One team can have up to two copies of the same hero at a time in Role Queue and Open Queue.
  • All other rules, including the one tank restriction in Role Queue, are unchanged.

During this time, the traditional Quick Play game modes have been fully replaced by the Double Trouble game mode. Overwatch 2 had previously confirmed future Quick Play: Hacked experiments would use new play cards if they introduced big changes to the game, while less disruptive tests would continue to replace the existing card like Quicker Play did, albeit for shorter periods. It seems Overwatch 2 is doing the latter for Double Trouble.

While plenty of players are excited to try out this new Quick Play: Hacked experiment, others are dreading facing two versions of their least-favorite heroes. Double Sombra, Zenyatta, or other terrifying combos will dominate the mode over the next day, and some fans think it is unfair to be unable to opt out of the playtest. Luckily, the Quick Play experiment will not last long, so these players won’t be stuck with the Quick Play changes in Overwatch 2 for a whole week like they were for Quicker Play.

Those who don’t want to participate in Double Trouble might consider trying Hero Mastery: Gauntlet, a new co-op PvE mode where players work together to protect three towers from onslaughts of enemy bots. Alternatively, Overwatch 2 Season 9 also completely revamped Competitive Play, so this could be a perfect time for fans to test their skills in a ranked challenge.
