- The shortcut idea aims to improve late game progress and encourage fights in other map locations.
An Overwatch 2 fan recently suggested adding shortcuts for the escort robots on the maps for the Push game mode. This theoretical Overwatch 2 map feature would unlock after both teams pass their respective checkpoints in the hope of breaking late-game stalemates.
Push is a game mode introduced in Overwatch 2 in which players must fight over control of a robot who pushes a barricade towards the enemy team. Halfway between the center point and the finish line, each team has a checkpoint that can be captured after a few seconds, enabling their fallen teammates to spawn closer to the robot, so long as it is not pushed back over the point.
Overwatch 2 Fan Shares Awesome Skin Concepts For a Space-Themed Season
One creative Overwatch 2 player reimagines certain heroes as ‘outer space’ beings, showing several fan-favorite characters in a whole new light.
However, when both teams have pushed the robot past their respective checkpoints after taking control of the map, many fans have noticed it is usually hard to push further, as it often requires winning several skirmishes in order to do so. One such player, VeganCanary, shared a potential solution to this Overwatch 2 Push problem on Reddit: after both teams have captured their checkpoints, the Push robot could begin taking a shortcut to get back to the controlling team’s barricade. Their diagram of the New Queen Street map suggested a path that circumvented the long curve around the overpass, removing almost half of its normal travel time.
Overwatch 2 Fan Suggestion – Push Bot Shortcuts
VeganCanary offered several reasons why this could be an improvement. Beyond making it easier to progress later on in matches, the change in the flow of traffic would also alter how players approached the maps, encouraging fights to break out in other locations, keeping matches interesting and dynamic. Many of their fellow fans agreed, saying it could help speed up Overwatch 2 matches by allowing more to end without having to go into Overtime.
On the other hand, plenty of fans did not like VeganCanary’s suggestion. Some pointed out that the precious few seconds gained by taking the long route gives the team who lost the last fight the chance to regroup and claim the robot in the neutral zone without losing more ground. Others also suggested it would also mess with spawning, as the robot would quickly pass the checkpoint and possibly force the losing team to revive at their original spawn, making a comeback even harder.
Regardless, this change to Push maps probably won’t be coming any time soon. In addition to the coding required to make this change, every Push map in Overwatch 2 would have to be reworked to make a physical shortcut for the robot to go through. Even so, if Overwatch 2 ever wanted to make major alterations to Push, VeganCanary’s suggestion would be a game-changer.
