Kai ‘Kai’ Collins, better known online as yung_kai, has gotten his Blizzard Entertainment account banned following suspicions of cheating in Overwatch 2 mid-game. This turn of events has left the Overwatch 2 pro player surprised and disheartened by the decision.

Blizzard Entertainment prides itself on protecting customers from disruptive behavior while creating a fun, fair, and enjoyable platform for everyone. As a result, it actively suspends and bans player accounts for violating its forum policies and Code of Contact. These violations range from using bots and cheat software to exploitative activity and unauthorized account access. For the most part, Blizzard has done an excellent job at banning players, but many have reported receiving wrongful bans and suspensions in some cases, including an Overwatch 2 player allegedly banned from Quick Play.

During a mid-February stream, Kai received a notice of account closure for his Blizzard account. The notice cited cheating as a reason for the ban, informing the player that the previous game had been canceled and that no win or loss would be recorded for either team. There has been a fuss following Kai's ban, which may have caused Overwatch 2 player count drops. The former OWL star has denied these claims, stating in a post on Twitter, “Banned mid-game for detected cheats. Tragic system.” Kai tried overturning the ban by speaking with the Anticheat team, but his request was declined, and his account seemingly lost forever.

While Kai isn’t one of the biggest Overwatch 2 streamers, he has grown a massive and respectable community of fans online. Many of his fans are shocked by the ban, with some on Reddit blaming the new patch for the ban. Others shared similar experiences, claiming they received bans and suspensions from the platform for no reason. This is no surprise, as Blizzard bans have recently proved controversial. Last year, in September, Overwatch 2 banned a quarter million players in a big purge for inappropriate naming and disruptive chat.

Blizzard’s Unwarranted Overwatch Bans Could Be a Problem

The latest reporting system has affected both pro players and casual everyday gamers, as players get banned for entire seasons. Fans speculate the system is automated and not vetted at all, resulting in some getting blocked or suspended for no reason. This could explain why there has been an outbreak of seemingly unwarranted suspensions and bans. Unfortunately, Blizzard’s response to unnecessary bans has left fans disappointed and frustrated. Hopefully, Blizzard will work on its suspension issues soon to prevent unwarranted bans. Following the fuss over Kai’s ban, Blizzard could end up taking manual action.
