Overwatch 2 recently announced two new maps are coming to the hero shooter in the form of Atlantic Arcology and Tokyo. Players can expect to see these battlefields in Overwatch 2 sometime after Season 19.
Recently, Overwatch 2 wrapped up a massive Spotlight event that revealed tons of game-changing information. From the introduction of Perks in Overwatch 2 Season 15 to the exciting new Stadium game mode coming in Season 16, the Spotlight was every bit as groundbreaking as Blizzard had teased ahead of the broadcast.
Overwatch 2 Reveals Ambitious New Stadium Mode
Blizzard pulls the curtain back on a brand-new Stadium game mode that will offer new ways to experience the hero shooter.
A couple of the reveals gave fans their first look at content that may be a year away. The end of the presentation revealed concept art for two new Overwatch 2 maps: Atlantic Arcology and Tokyo. The objectives for the maps are currently a mystery, but the Overwatch 2 team will share more about them later in 2025.
Atlantic Arcology and Tokyo – New Overwatch 2 Maps
According to the Spotlight event, these two new maps will arrive in Overwatch 2 after Season 19. While it is too far out to have a solid prediction for when that could be, Overwatch 2 Season 15 releases on February 18, so the game's two-month seasonal cadence suggests Season 19 will arrive in October. This means Atlantic Arcology and Tokyo will likely be included in one of the last updates of 2025, possibly in Season 20 or around December.
Tokyo is not the first Overwatch map in Japan. That said, Hanamura, Hanaoka, and Kanezaka all showcase more traditional residential areas, rather than the high-tech metropolitan landscape seen in the Tokyo concept art. These existing locations are geographically a part of the greater Tokyo area as well, further strengthening the new map’s connection with heroes like Genji, Hanzo, and Kiriko.
Atlantic Arcology, on the other hand, is an independent scientific research station run by The Collective – a group Lifeweaver is affiliated with – and was referenced in hyperloop departure boards found on both the Midtown and Esperanca maps. Players will have to keep an eye out within Atlantic Arcology to see if there are any references to Talantis, the fan-created Arcade map that was available in Overwatch 2 for a short time in 2023.
Some other big changes are coming to maps in Overwatch 2 as well. Players can expect reworks to Suravasa and New Junk City – the original two maps released with the Flashpoint game mode in Overwatch 2 – alongside several other classic game mode maps. While these changes also don’t have an exact timetable, fans will definitely see them at some point this year.
