Overwatch 2 recently updated one of the screens of the Busan MEKA Base map with a new story that could be teasing a second member of D.Va’s squad joining the cast of heroes. While nothing has been confirmed yet, this conspicuous update at least suggests a story featuring MEKA Squad might be coming to Overwatch 2 in the near future.

Between her charming demeanor, unique playstyle, and exciting lore, D.Va is one of the most popular tanks in Overwatch 2, with only Reinhardt beating out her pick rate in most regions. Characters like Kiriko and Wuyang may be some of Overwatch 2’s new darlings, but D.Va was one of the original poster children for the hero shooter when it launched in 2016.

New Overwatch 2 MEKA Squad Map Easter Egg

However, a new lore update might have just hinted at a development involving D.Va in the near future. One of the screens on the Busan MEKA Base map was recently updated with new text. Discovered by OW2 content creator Hazelet and translated and shared by Overwatch Cavalry, this in-universe news article reveals that South Korea has created a new wide-scale EMP weapon that could disable the Gwishin once and for all – if the pilots of MEKA Squad can successfully deploy the munitions at the core of the Omnic swarm.

While D.Va is the face of MEKA Squad in Overwatch 2, there are four other members of the team, each of whom has their own mechs and fighting styles. Though they have only been seen in concept art, viewscreens during D.Va’s “Shooting Star” cinematic, and in the New Blood comic series, the other pilots of MEKA, who oppose the Gwishin Omnics who continue to attack South Korea decades after the Crisis ended, have been fan-favorite side characters since they were first introduced.

While this might be simple set dressing, this new Easter egg also could be a hint towards something huge coming to Overwatch 2 soon. This could be teasing a comic, short story, or other media delving deeper into D.Va and her squadmates in the aftermath of Null Sector's retreat. However, Overwatch 2 might even be planning to finally add a second member of MEKA Squad to the game. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but at the very least, it is confirmation that Blizzard hasn’t forgotten about these popular characters.

Either way, Overwatch 2 players are getting a new hero soon in the form of Vendetta. The daughter of former Talon executive Antonio Giordani, Vendetta is set to shake up Overwatch 2’s lore in a big way. Blizzard seems to be putting a lot of focus on the lore of Overwatch 2 again, so fans will have to see how MEKA Squad plays into the story as well.
