Summary
- Overwatch 2's crossover with My Hero Academia offers impressive skins, challenges, and bundles.
- Players can purchase individual skins or opt for a discounted mega bundle until October 30.
- While the prices for skins and bundles may be high, the content and quality of the crossover collab may be worth it to hardcore MHA fans.
The original Overwatch never had any crossover skins, but they've been coming to Overwatch 2 for years now. Since launch, Overwatch 2 has added skins and other content based on Cowboy Bebop, Diablo, LE SSERAFIM, LEGO, One Punch Man, Porsche, StarCraft, Transformers, and Warcraft, with the latest collab being the hit anime/manga series My Hero Academia. I haven't always been impressed with the Overwatch 2 crossover skins, but I think that the My Hero Academia collab is easily one of the best that the hero-shooter has done so far.
The Overwatch 2 x My Hero Academia collab is currently live in the game and will remain so until October 30. While the collab is live, Overwatch 2 players have the opportunity to purchase My Hero Academia skins from the store, with Deku Tracer, Uravity Juno, All Might Reinhardt, Shigaraki Reaper, and Toga Kiriko all available for individual purchase or as a bundle. There are also free sprays that Overwatch 2 players can unlock by completing special My Hero Academia challenges.
Predicting Overwatch 2’s Season 14 Hero Based on In-Game Teasers
Recent changes to certain Overwatch 2 maps have given the player base a good indication of who the next playable hero will be starting in Season 14.
From the jump, I have been hugely impressed with the Overwatch 2 My Hero Academia skins. I found the One Punch Man and Cowboy Bebop skins to be somewhat lacking, but the My Hero Academia collab is much like the Transformers crossover in that it does a great job of capturing the unique likeness of the licensed characters while the heroes remain firmly recognizable as who they're supposed to be in-game. It also helps that with My Hero Academia still airing new episodes and having a new movie in theaters, it feels a bit more culturally relevant than the previous anime crossover events.

The Overwatch 2 x My Hero Academia skins are excellent, but they're just the tip of the iceberg. If players decide to buy the My Hero Academia Mega Bundle for 5,700 Overwatch Coins ($49.99), they get a ton of additional content for their money. This includes some awesome voice lines that are references to the anime/manga, emotes, highlight intros, and more. As far as cosmetic bundles go, the Overwatch 2 x My Hero Academia Mega Bundle definitely gives consumers bang for their buck.
That being said, the crossover isn't perfect. While players do indeed get a lot for $49.99, there's no getting around the fact that $49.99 could get gamers entire video games instead of a bundle of cosmetics for a free-to-play live-service game. The individual My Hero Academia skins cost about $20 a pop, which is still a lot for cosmetics. The bundle definitely gives players their money's worth compared to past Overwatch 2 crossovers, but these prices are still too high.
I also think it was a missed opportunity that no one seems to have a proper voice line where they yell "SMASH!" Like Deku and All Might do when hitting enemies with their signature attacks. There's a theory that such a line was meant to replace Reinhardt's "HAMMER DOWN!" Ultimate line because of a bug where the All Might skin seemingly says nothing when performing his Ult. If that's true, one would think it would have been fixed by now. All Might Reinhardt does say "Texas Smash!" As part of his "Hammer Down!" Highlight Intro, but it doesn't hit quite the same.
So, while Overwatch 2's crossover with My Hero Academia isn't perfect, it's still quite easily one of the best collabs that the hero shooter has done so far. I was also impressed with the Transformers collab from last season, and so these crossovers are on a bit of a roll. I can't wait to see what's next and if Overwatch 2 Season 14 has its own crossover event on deck.
