Overwatch 2 has temporarily disabled the Midtown map due to an issue causing cars to become invisible on lower settings. This Hybrid map has been removed from the map pool in both Unranked and Competitive Overwatch 2 for now, with no timeline for when it will return.

Midtown is one of the new Hybrid maps introduced with the release of Overwatch 2 in 2022. Located in New York City, Midtown is known for its tight street fights, a lack of environmental kill spots, and its rainbow-colored decorations during Overwatch 2’s Pride event in June.

Overwatch 2 Dating Sim Comes With a Big Catch

Overwatch 2 recently released a new dating sim featuring several heroes of Future Earth, but there's a pretty big catch fans should be aware of.

However, it seems Midtown has encountered a game-breaking problem that has led to it being removed from the game for the time being. Shortly after the Overwatch 2 mid-Season 17 update, fans began reporting that some of the parked vehicles in Midtown were invisible on low settings. In response, Overwatch 2 temporarily disabled Midtown in both Competitive and Unranked game modes while it addresses the issue.

Midtown Map Temporarily Disabled in Overwatch 2

Right now, there is no word on when Midtown will be patched up and returned to the map pool. After its introduction in Season 17, the new Aatlis Flashpoint map was unavailable in 6v6 games due to an issue that took an entire month to resolve. Though Overwatch 2 attempted to fix this bug in the July 8 patch, it was unable to do so until the mid-season update. While Midtown might return in a hotfix soon, it is possible the map could remain unavailable until Season 18 or later.

This isn’t the first time Midtown has been disabled in Overwatch 2. During the launch of Overwatch 2 Season 6, an undisclosed issue broke Midtown, leading it to be disabled for most of the season. This event took place in August, a little over a month after the first instance of the Pride month decorations being removed at the end of June, so it is possible these temporary map changes could have been involved in both incidents.

On the plus side, Midtown’s removal makes it more likely for players to try out the refurbished Suravasa and New Junk City. Both of these maps were given big reworks in the Overwatch 2 mid-Season 17 update, so fans should expect to find better fields of view, more open choke points, and additional thematic elements the next time they queue into a match in these areas.
