An Overwatch 2 developer confirmed that the game's newest hero, Mauga, will receive some balance adjustments on Tuesday, December 19. Overwatch 2's developer team plans to adjust the hero's survivability, as well as his left-click ability.

Mauga was released with Overwatch 2's Season 8 update, which also saw the re-addition of Overwatch 2's popular Misfits and Magic game mode. Since Season 8 dropped, fans of the popular FPS game have had their fair share of complaints regarding Mauga, with many claiming that the hero is too strong. In response to this, Mauga was nerfed in a December 12 patch that saw his damage reduced, a nerf applied to his left-click ability, and a nerf applied to his ultimate ability. However, it looks like Overwatch 2 will be rolling back some of these changes to the game's newest tank hero.

Overwatch 2 developer Alec Dawson tweeted that the developer team now has a clearer understanding of what Mauga's place should be within the meta. On December 19, Mauga will have his survivability buffed and his left-click "incendiary chaingun" ability buffed back to its previous state. It's not clear what exactly this survivability buff will consist of, but a boost to Mauga's passive ability is a likely candidate. This ability supplies Mauga with additional health while dealing critical damage. The adjustment to Mauga's left-click ability will see his incendiary chaingun requiring only 10 shots to ignite enemies, instead of the previously implemented 15-shot requirement.

The December 19 update also introduces Overwatch 2's Winter Wonderland event. Players who participate in the event can unlock five new, Christmas-themed skins, in addition to a new weapon charm, highlight intro, name card, and more. The event also introduces four returning event modes for players to enjoy. It's not yet clear if this update will include additional balance changes other than Mauga's nerf.

Some Overwatch 2 fans have lamented over Brigitte's failure to find a solid place within the meta. The Season 8 update nerfed her damage output, leading her to become the least-picked support hero in Overwatch 2's competitive mode, at the time of writing. Brigitte's unique attributes for a support hero make it a challenge for Blizzard to find the right balancing point, without making her too powerful.

Overwatch 2 also received the interesting new Battle of the Beasts mode with Season 8. For the first time in Overwatch, this mode implements a competitive PvPvE format, with players battling to slay the other team's AI-controlled Orisa.
