Overwatch 2 recently implemented a hotfix for Overwatch: Classic that restored several parts of Doomfist’s kit to their original 2017 values, including the ground checks and shockwave hitbox for Seismic Slam, and the air time for Rising Uppercut. These changes for Doomfist are currently live in Overwatch 2, but only for the Moth Meta Overwatch: Classic game mode.
Right now, Overwatch 2 is in the middle of its second run of Overwatch: Classic, a limited-time game mode that brings things back to where they were in the original FPS. Rather than the 2016 launch balance of the first Overwatch: Classic, this event revives the infamous Mercy-dominated Moth Meta from September 2017, after Ana, Sombra, and Doomfist had been added to the game.
Overwatch 2 Fans Aren't Happy About Spotlight Twitch Partners
Overwatch 2 fans voice their complaints about some of the Twitch streamers Blizzard selected to participate in the upcoming Spotlight event.
To help improve the event, Overwatch 2 has pushed a hotfix that restores the last of these heroes back to where he was eight years ago. Doomfist, who was a damage hero during this Overwatch era, received a handful of bug fixes that adjust the ground checks and shockwave hitbox of Seismic Slam, as well as the air time and loss of control duration of Rising Uppercut. It also removed the ability to cancel Seismic Slam and Rising Uppercut with Rocket Punch or Meteor Strike. These changes only affect Doomfist in Overwatch: Classic, and not in the traditional 5v5 game modes.
This isn’t the first hotfix Blizzard has implemented for this run of Overwatch: Classic. Just a day earlier, Overwatch 2 pushed out a small patch that fixed some issues with Mercy, ensuring the Moth Meta’s infamous namesake could live up to her reputation. Fans can expect even more bug fixes during the last week of Overwatch: Classic that will address other inconsistencies that have been reported during the event.
This small hotfix is almost certainly another example of Overwatch 2’s Rapid Balance Update technology at work. Using this tech, Overwatch 2 has been able to implement several bug fixes and balance adjustments between major season and mid-season updates. This has enabled Blizzard to more quickly and efficiently fine-tune the game, which is especially important for limited-time events like Overwatch: Classic.
Overwatch: Classic is set to end on February 18 – the same day Overwatch 2 Season 15 begins. While details on exactly what this next update will entail are scarce, players can expect to learn more about Season 15, along with heroes, maps, and other “groundbreaking changes” coming to the game in 2025, at the Overwatch 2 Spotlight event taking place on February 12 at 10 AM PST.
