Blizzard has officially added the Hero Mastery mode to Overwatch 2 as of the game's latest update. Hero Mastery is a new game mode that lets players complete challenges as various heroes on the roster. It's a way for players to better understand the skills of each hero in Overwatch 2, and as the name of the game mode implies, master them.
Originally, Hero Mastery mode was going to be a part of Overwatch 2's huge Season 6 launch. Unfortunately, Blizzard had to delay the Hero Mastery mode, but that doesn't mean Season 6 has been lacking content. On the contrary, Overwatch 2 Season 6 saw the biggest update that the hero shooter has seen since its original early access launch in 2022. It added new Support hero Ilari to the mix, introduced the Flashpoint game mode, and debuted the game's first PvE story missions.
Overwatch 2 players that have had their fill of the story content but are looking for some fresh non-PvP content can now check out the Hero Mastery mode, which is a single-player mode complete with leaderboards. Players have three difficulty levels to choose from per hero, with the goal of getting five stars with each member of Overwatch 2's roster. Mercy, Reinhardt, and Tracer are available at launch with Sojourn and Winston coming later in the season.
Hero Mastery isn't the only big thing left to look forward to when it comes to Overwatch 2 Season 6. Blizzard has also teased what fans can expect from the Overwatch 2 Anniversary celebration. Starting September 19, Blizzard will be bringing back limited-time Overwatch 2 modes as part of the Anniversary event, with Battle for Olympus, Catch-A-Mari, Starwatch, and Mischief and Magic specifically named. There will also be returning Legendary skins in the shop that players can purchase with Overwatch Credits, which can be earned through special Anniversary challenges.
It won't be long after the Overwatch 2 Anniversary event wraps up that the game moves on to its next seasonal event. Unless Blizzard plans on skipping it this year, Overwatch 2's Halloween Terror seasonal event should be making a comeback at some point in October. If previous years are any indication, this should include some brand-new Halloween-themed skins for players to purchase, as well as the return of the Halloween game modes like Junkenstein's Revenge. It's possible this year's Halloween event will have some surprises in store, but Overwatch 2 enthusiasts will just have to wait for more information on that front. In the meantime, they can check out the game's latest update and mark their calendars for the start of the Anniversary event on September 19.
Overwatch 2 is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
