Overwatch 2 fans seem to be using all their free time to entertain the first-person shooter’s new Stadium mode, but the player base has recently been requesting the popular hero bans feature be added, and Blizzard has responded. Overwatch 2 was first released in 2023 and served as a sequel and replacement to the 2016 predecessor, reducing the team size of the original game from six to five and introducing new game modes as well.

The sequel shooter isn’t holding back regarding new content, as Overwatch 2 recently revealed new skins from its Gundam Wing collab. The crossover event will run from April 29 until May 12 to celebrate the anime series’ 30th anniversary, and fans can expect to bag several skins, including Wing Gundam Zero Mercy and Epyon Ramattra.

Discussed in a Reddit AMA, players were encouraged to ask the Blizzard team about anything regarding the new Stadium mode, and the conversation soon turned to the possibility of hero bans being added. Responding to the request, Test Analyst, Daniel Duffin, explained the implementation of this feature would be difficult currently since the mode only has 17 heroes, but confirmed the Blizzard team “may revisit hero bans for Stadium in the future, when the cast is much larger.” Blizzard previously acknowledged several issues with Overwatch 2’s Stadium mode, which is possibly what provoked the team to host this useful AMA to gain players’ honest feedback.

Adding to the hero bans discussion, Senior Systems Designer, Connor Kou, noted the popular demand for the feature and agreed it would enhance the mode, saying, “It has a lot of interesting implications for team compositions and the meta. It is something we’re interested to explore!” Despite some hiccups and pressing requests from fans, Overwatch 2 saw a player count spike thanks to the Stadium update, proving the new content was a moth-to-the-flame success.

Looking ahead to the FPS’ future, Blizzard may be working on an Overwatch mobile game, if the rumors are anything to go by. The developer has reportedly partnered with Korean studio Nexon to focus on a new mobile title, following reports that Blizzard was meeting with several developers, including Netmarble and NCSoft, to discuss a few exciting projects. In addition to the possible Overwatch mobile game, rumors also suggested Blizzard was receiving pitches from the Korean studios regarding a new StarCraft game, and its reported union with Nexon may see that endeavor come to fruition.
