Summary

  • Season 10 in Overwatch 2 brings a trial of Clash mode for players to enjoy before its official release.
  • Hanaoka, the new map in Japan, is reminiscent of Hanamura.
  • One player discovered a hidden room in Hanaoka, but it only features a single chair.

While many Overwatch 2 fans are still getting to grips with the new map introduced this season, one player has come across a hidden room found near one of the spawn locations while exploring the new Hanaoka map. Season 10 has brought a significant amount of content to Overwatch 2, including the new damage hero, Venture, the limited-time Mirrorwatch event, as well as a wealth of new skins. Season 10 also brought in a trial version of the upcoming Clash mode for players to try out before it's officially added to the game later on.

Hanaoka is a new map located in Japan, and is currently the only map available for the Clash game mode in Overwatch 2. The map itself is hugely reminiscent of the map Hanamura, which was a fan-favorite location back in the original Overwatch before the Assault game mode was removed from standard mode rotations in the sequel. The reasons behind the similarities between these two maps likely extend beyond them both simply being located in the same region of Japan too, as the new Clash mode is considered to be something of a heavily-altered revival of the original Assault mode. With this in mind, it seems likely that Hanaoka was designed to be something of an evolved version of Hanamura, tweaked to better fit Overwatch 2's new mode and gameplay changes.

Future Clash maps might similarly resemble some of the other popular Overwatch 2 Assault maps from back in the day, though Hanaoka - as well as the Clash mode itself - has been largely well-received by the game's community. Several weeks after the release of this new map, however, one fan has actually discovered a neat secret room hidden in one of Hanaoka's spawn locations. The player who made this discovery goes by Fabulous_Guitar4350 on Reddit, where they shared a clip that shows off what the room looks like and how to enter it. Playing as Tracer, they demonstrate how players can simply walk straight through a solid wall to enter.

This sort of secret room might seem like it should be stocked with ammo and power-ups since it seems so similar to the type of secret gamers might find in the classic DOOM games, but unfortunately, the room itself doesn't feature anything interesting besides a single chair. The chair at least suggests that this room is almost certainly an Easter egg rather than just an error in map geometry, but whatever the case, there are very few instances of invisible wall Easter eggs throughout the rest of Overwatch 2.

When Clash Might Officially Be Coming to Overwatch 2

Unfortunately, there's not yet a clear date in sight for the official introduction of the Clash game mode into Overwatch 2. Season 10 introduced the mode for a limited time only for experimental purposes, but it seems likely that its permanent addition to the game will come with the launch of a future season later this year.
