An Overwatch 2 player has come up with a hilarious and ridiculous idea that would fit right in with the game's expected April Fools joke patch. Currently in its ninth season, Overwatch 2 has overhauled its competitive mode, resetting everyone's ranks and adding a new tier called Champion. The new season also brought some significant changes to the Junkertown payload map, adding several new pieces of large cover around the first payload checkpoint to give offensive teams a better chance against opposing Pharah and Widowmaker players.

Last year saw Overwatch 2 release its first ever April Fools event, complete with a full set of patch notes highlighting the ridiculous changes made to each hero's abilities. The patch gave tanks Reinhardt and Orisa the hilarious ability to fly through the air when using Charge and Javelin Spin respectively. Upon requesting healing, Genji players had a chance to trigger a self heal, and Junkrat players were able to drop a volley of grenades every time they used their mines to jump. As for support heroes, Brigitte's Whip Shot dragged her to the head of her flail, essentially transforming it into a grapple hook, and Moira players were given the ability to control the movement of their Biotic Orbs. Additionally, all heroes were given hilarious googly eyes, as well as silly new ultimate voice lines.

On Reddit, Zealousideal-You4638 argued that Genji is essentially a projectile when he uses his Swift Strike dash ability. As such, Zealousideal humorously stated that D.Va's Defense Matrix ability should be able to "eat" him like any other projectile. In Overwatch 2, D.Va's Defense Matrix emits a wide net-like field that shoots down or "eats" all incoming projectiles. Considering the size of the Matrix, it wouldn't be hard for Genji players to accidentally slip into it when dashing through opponents.

Under the post, commenters discussed what would happen to Genji players after being eaten by D.Va's Matrix. Some more reasonable ideas were that he'd be killed and sent back to spawn, while others harshly argued for the Genji player to get booted from the match and sent back to Overwatch 2's main menu, or even trigger the game to quit. Another commenter added that the same should happen to Doomfist when he uses his punch. An entire hero getting eaten by D.Va's Defense Matrix may seem too extreme, but would surely add to the chaos of the mode, which is likely the goal of the April Fools patch to begin with.

Will Overwatch 2 Have An April Fools Patch Again This Year?

With last year's April Fools event only lasting a few days, some players are hoping that, if it happens again, it'll be live for even longer, or even become a permanent Arcade mode. While it's not known if the April Fools patch will return this year, by the time April 1 rolls around, players will likely know more about Season 10 of Overwatch 2 and the new DPS hero set to join the roster.
