  • There are inconsistencies with the ages of the Overwatch 2 heroes, and fans are calling on Blizzard to either remove the ages or adjust them to align with the established lore.

Blizzard has revealed the official ages for all the Overwatch 2 characters, though some of the listed ages don't make sense when considering the hero shooter's expanded lore. Since the original Overwatch launched in 2016, most of the lore surrounding the game has been told through supplementary books, comics, short stories, origin videos, and the big budget animated shorts.

Overwatch 2 has changed that a bit through the introduction of PvE story missions. Overwatch 2 PvE story missions give players special co-op levels to complete with friends that move the narrative forward. Fans can expect more Overwatch 2 PvE story missions next year, but in the meantime, they can continue to get lore updates through the more traditional avenues. In fact, Blizzard just recently gave fans a lore update through the official Overwatch website by revealing the ages of all the characters in the game, though this has left some hardcore fans confused.

According to Blizzard, the oldest Overwatch 2 character is Tank hero Sigma at 64 years old, while the youngest is Tank hero Orisa at just 1 year of age, which makes sense because she is an Omnic that was just recently built. What doesn't make sense is that Support hero Kiriko is only 21, as official art showed her training alongside Genji and Hanzo when the three of them were children, yet Genji's age is listed as 37 while Hanzo is said to be 40.

There are other inconsistencies with the Overwatch 2 hero ages, but it remains to be seen if Blizzard will address these problems. Some fans have called on Blizzard to simply remove the hero ages, while others are hoping that it instead adjusts the ages so that they make sense with the established Overwatch lore. Blizzard itself has not commented on the issues at the time of this writing.

The Overwatch 2 hero ages aren't the only controversial thing surrounding the game recently. Something else that has the community talking is the recent Zarya buffs, which have made the Tank hero significantly more effective. Blizzard often adjusts Overwatch 2 based on fan feedback, and it will be interesting to see how it reacts to both the bizarre hero ages and the Zarya buffs.

Overwatch 2 is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
