The Overwatch 2 skins from its past collaborations with Diablo 4 and World of Warcraft can now officially be obtained via Loot Boxes as of Season 16. Though these cosmetics can no longer be purchased directly, lucky players might be able to find these rare Overwatch 2 skins in their Loot Boxes.

In Season 15, Loot Boxes made their return to Overwatch 2 after being discontinued at the end of the original Overwatch. Obtained through gameplay, events, and promotions like the ongoing Overwatch 2 Season 16 Discord Quest, fans have the chance to crack open rare cosmetics from Loot Boxes, including most items from the first game, plus Battle Pass and shop skins from past seasons of the sequel.

However, now that Season 16 has arrived, some rare Overwatch 2 skins from past Blizzard collaborations can now be found in Loot Boxes. Every skin from the Diablo 4 x Overwatch 2 crossover in October 2023, as well as those from the September 2024 World of Warcraft collab, now have a low chance to drop from any Loot Box when obtaining Legendary items. This includes highly-desired skins like Lilith Moira, which was controversially only available in Overwatch 2 as a part of the $40 Ultimate Battle Pass bundle, and could not be bought individually.

Only skins from these two collaborations have been added to the list of items from Loot Boxes so far. The 2018 BlizzCon exclusive Illidan Genji and Tyrande Symmetra still do not appear, though the recolored Sin’dorei Symmetra and older Blizzard IP skins like Blackhand Doomfist, Butcher Roadhog, and Kerrigan Widowmaker, have been in Loot Boxes since they returned in Season 15. Additionally, no external IP collaboration skins in Overwatch 2, such as those from the One Punch Man, Cowboy Bebop, or Transformers crossovers, can currently be pulled in Loot Boxes.

Many players are happy to see Overwatch 2 make this change. Most assumed these skins, the majority of which were only available through RMT, would never be obtainable again and are glad to have the chance – even if it is a slim one. However, some of those who purchased these skins feel cheated by having them added to loot boxes and feel they are entitled to a refund. That said, between the low chance of obtaining these specific skins, and the limit to how many Overwatch 2 Loot Boxes fans can obtain, buying the skins during their original events is still the only way to have been ensured to get them.

It remains to be seen what other rare skins Overwatch 2 will add to Loot Boxes in the future. Either way, all Loot Boxes are automatically opened at the end of each season, so players shouldn’t bother trying to save them in the hope of getting different returning cosmetics in the future.
