Summary
- Overwatch 2 Season 15 introduces hero perks, allowing players to upgrade characters with unique perks each match.
- Bastion's new self-heal perk raises concerns as it lacks a resource meter, making him exceptionally durable.
- Fans worry that new hero perks grant too much power, risking imbalances in abilities that may require Blizzard to make tweaks.
The plethora of hero perks added to Overwatch 2 with the launch of its fifteenth season undeniably marks a huge step forward for the game, though one of Bastion's perks is causing some fans to worry that Blizzard is taking a step backwards when it comes to balancing the damage hero. Many veteran Overwatch 2 players may recall that Bastion has a history of balancing issues, but the reintroduction of some of the characters' classic abilities, especially with fewer guardrails in place, has sparked some keen debate among fans.
Overwatch 2 Has a Mysterious New Currency
A new type of currency appears in Overwatch 2 after the Season 15 update, though its purpose and source are currently shrouded in mystery.
Overwatch 2's new perks completely evolve the way the game is played in many ways, and grant refreshing new methods for fans to interact with their favorite heroes. That said, many new perks have looked to old abilities, and Bastion has actually regained his classic self-heal ability as well as an ability resembling his original ultimate thanks to his perks. It's the return of his self-heal that has gotten some fans worried, with one fan known online as SammyIsSeiso recently posting a pretty funny clip that shows how Bastion is now capable of out-healing all the damage inflicted on him by a juiced-up Zarya beam.
Why Bastion's New Self-Heal Ability in Overwatch 2 is a Big Deal This Time Around
The biggest point of concern here is the fact that, unlike the Bastion of Overwatch's past, modern Bastion doesn't have a resource meter on his self-heal at all, meaning he can literally heal himself indefinitely unless interrupted by a stun or hack. One upside to this is that Bastion doesn't gain this ability right from the get-go, and instead has to choose it as a major perk, which is typically unlocked quite a way into a match.
Bastion's abilities were actually almost totally overhauled with the release of Overwatch 2 to more directly combat the balancing issues he had in the past. Now, though, fans worry that this new perk can push Bastion dangerously close to tank durability while still boasting the same potent DPS capability. It's likely that Blizzard will introduce some initial balance tweaks after fans have spent some time with perks, but it does feel like these new perks were designed partly to let players go wild with power.
