The Sun God is a legendary deity that exists in the world of One Piece and was first introduced in the story back during the Skypiea arc, as a god whom all the Skypieans prayed to for help. Back then, fans did not think much of the existence of this God, but as is the case with One Piece, it ended up becoming a huge plot point in the Wano Country Arc later on. In this particular part of the series, Oda went on to reveal that the name of the Sun God worshiped by the many slaves and the oppressed of the One Piece world is Nika.
In Jinbei's battle against Who's Who, Oda touched upon Nika again, with the latter wanting to know more about the existence of this legendary Sun God that exists in the world of One Piece. Later on, in the fight between Luffy and Kaido, the power of Nika first emerged as Luffy tapped into his Devil Fruit Awakening.
Eventually, the Five Elders revealed that the true name of Luffy's Devil Fruit was actually Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika. While Luffy is the true Sun God of the One Piece world, he might not be the only one. In fact, Oda has established his story in a way that allows for the existence of multiple Sun Gods in different ways, and fans will most certainly want to find out more about that as the Elbaf Arc of One Piece continues.
Sun God Nika Awakened After 800 Years In One Piece
Nika Is The Warrior of Liberation Of The One Piece World
- First emerged thousands of years ago
- Nika continues to exist as long as oppression continues
The true origin of the Sun God Nika remains unknown, but the legend of this mythical deity is said to have emerged from the land of Elbaf, where Giants exist. As such, if the Sun God Nika that existed first of all belonged to any country, it was most likely Elbaf.
He's the Sun God Nika, the warrior who brings laughter to the faces of the slaves and is known as the Warrior of Liberation. It is said that his powers are the most ridiculous of all! — Five Elders
Curiously enough, the Harley that was properly introduced to the fans in the Elbaf Arc reveals the lore of the One Piece, and in it, Oda has clearly established that the world had three distinct eras, each being described as a particular World.
- The First World existed 3,000 or so years ago, and back then, mankind was quite advanced, and got its hand on the sun itself, which is a source of power, likely the Mother Flame. Then, corruption rose to a level incredibly high, and slavery became rampant. The wishes of the slaves led to the emergence of the Sun God Nika, who then fought the Earth God and the Serpent of Hellfire, leading to the destruction of the world. This era is likely referring to the time period that existed 3,000 years ago in the world of One Piece.
- Then came Joy Boy, who existed 800 years ago in the world of One Piece, and the Harley refers to this era as the Second World of One Piece. After the destruction of the world once, life began anew, and in this era, Mother Flame was found once again. As fans know, it is during this era that Joy Boy was born in the bountiful Ancient Kingdom, against whom 20 Kings united. This is because the Ancient Kingdom, led by Joy Boy, was incredibly advanced when it came to science, and likely discovered the infinite energy source of the Mother Flame once again. This eventually led to a massive war, causing great death and destruction in the world of One Piece, as well as the creation of the Ancient Weapons, which are alive to this day. Joy Boy ended up becoming the second Sun God Nika, given that fans know that he held the same ability as Luffy.
- Now, 800 years later, the Sun God Nika has re-emerged in the form of Luffy after he awakened his Devil Fruit in the battle against Kaido in the Wano Country Arc, and he's destined to clash against Imu and the World Government.
Bonney Awakened The Power Of Sun God Nika In Egghead
Bonney Is Another Nika In The World of One Piece
Luffy is the original Sun God Nika in the current Third World of One Piece, but he certainly isn't the only one with this power. In the Egghead arc, fans got to see Bonney tap into this power as well, and she too is the Sun God, although in her case, the powers are only temporary.
Bonney has the powers of the Toshi Toshi no Mi, which allows her to make any future that she deems is possible into a reality, as long as the possibility is in her mind. Bonney can do just about anything, even something as ridiculous as turning into the Sun God. She utilized the powers of Sun God Nika in the Elbaf arc, and there, she was able to unleash a flurry of powerful attacks on Saint Saturn, one of the mightiest individuals in the world.
Bonney's powers of Nika have not fully been mastered, but it is only a matter of time before she goes on to learn how to use them properly and maybe even awaken her Devil Fruit to take her overall potential to the next level.
Loki Is The New Sun God Of One Piece
Loki Calls Himself The Sun God of Destruction
Most fans would assume that, apart from Luffy and Bonney, there is no other Sun God in the One Piece world, but they would be wrong because Loki canonically refers to himself as the Sun God who will go on to destroy the world.
I am the Sun God who will destroy the whole world! — Loki, Elbaf
To understand why Loki calls himself the Sun God, one needs to understand the significance of Harley in the land of Elbaf. Those in Elbaf are split over what the Sun God truly is, and his purpose as well.
Some believe the Sun God is a savior who will protect the world from great chaos. Others believe that the Sun God is a destroyer who will cause massive destruction and put an end to the world. There are some others who believe the Sun God to be the ruler of the world, and practically, everyone has their own interpretation of what the Sun God truly is.
Then, one only needs to look at the essence of what a Devil Fruit truly represents. The Devil Fruits come from the imagination of people, and as such, anything that humans can imagine can be turned into reality with a Devil Fruit. In that sense, any version of Sun God Nika can be made into a Devil Fruit power, and this explains why Loki calls himself the Sun God as well.
Perhaps, Loki isn't the Sun God Nika but a different kind of Sun God, and this is also backed up by the people of Elbaf, who state canonically that Loki has the power to destroy the entire world, making him the destroyer version of the Sun God.
Loki's Powers Could Be Tied To The God Of Destruction
The World of One Piece Will Be Destroyed Again
In essence, the Sun God itself could have many versions, because over the years, different people have come to imagine different versions of it. The Sun God of liberation would be Nika, because he is the one who saves people from their oppression and releases them from their misery. Then the God of Destruction would be someone like Loki, who wants to go about the destruction of the world in his own way. Of course, different versions of this god could theoretically still exist in the world of One Piece under different guises.
Oda has established a brilliant concept, with imagination being linked to the Devil Fruits directly, and it gives limitless potential as far as the existence of various Gods of the One Piece world goes. Regardless of whether Loki is the Sun God or not, one thing that fans can say with absolute certainty is that Luffy is not the only Sun God in the story.
