Roger Found An Ancient Treasure and Truth left By Joy Boy On Laugh Tale

This Treasure Caused The Roger Pirates To Burst Out Laughing

When arriving at Laugh Tale for the first time, before the island even had that name, the Roger Pirates stumbled upon a treasure left there by the ancient figure, Joy Boy. Being widely considered the first pirate, and the original user of the Human-Human Fruit Model: Sun God Nika, Joy Boy, as many have guessed, is an incredibly lighthearted figure, similar to the protagonist of the series, Monkey D. Luffy. After seeing the treasure for the first time, Roger and his entire crew can’t help but laugh, leading them to name the island Laugh Tale.

While laughing at the treasure, Roger exclaims that he wished he could live in the same era as the One Piece figure, Joy Boy. Additionally, he claims that the treasure itself is stupendous and that the story the Void Century figure left with it was hilarious. Based on these facts alone, it seems more than likely that Joy Boy had left a joke behind and not anything too serious.

Pirates In One Piece Laugh In Hard Situations

Were The Roger Pirates Potentially Laughing Because Joy Boy's Truth Was Depressing?

  • Joy Boy May Have Detailed His Cruel Fate In The Void Century

However, paired with the fact of how hard Joy Boy had to struggle against the World Government in the Void Century, it seems just as likely that Roger may have found a depressing truth on this island. Firstly, as Saul told Robin earlier in the series, strong characters in One Piece, especially strong pirates, tend to laugh through painful or sad situations. From here, it could be possible that Roger was laughing at how depressing the truth he found regarding the Void Century was.

One Piece Blackbeard

Blackbeard stands out from other Clan of D members in all the wrong ways.

At the same time, although it could be originally interpreted that Roger wished he could live in the same century as Joy Boy to meet him and have a feast with him, it’s just as likely that he wanted to live in the One Piece Void Century to help him. In his story, Joy Boy may have shared his ultimate fate, which may have featured an ironic twist. Roger may have considered the story to be funny in an ironic way, which prompted him to claim how funny the story is overall.

Roger May Not Laugh At The Death Of An Ancient Figure

He Seems To Be Too Jolly And Cheerful To Laugh At Something Like This

However, based on Roger’s personality, it seems unlikely that he would laugh at the death of an important figure such as One Piece’s Joy Boy. While the former Pirate King, Roger, is a pirate and criminal, he does have a good humor and a jolly attitude overall. Still though, laughing at a cruel twist of fate isn’t outside the realm of possibility, especially if Joy Boy turned his death into a joke when telling his story.

Joy Boy, I wish I lived in the same era as you. - Roger

In the end, what the Roger crew saw on Laugh Tale is one of the most heavily anticipated secrets in all of One Piece. So far, all fans know is that the crew saw the One Piece treasure and simply laughed. Although this was a tiny detail in a massive series, this small moment alone has spawned so many excellent One Piece fan theories.
