One Piece has a plethora of powerful characters who are renowned throughout the world for their strength. Most of them possess strong Devil Fruits, which significantly increase their overall power. These characters train with Devil Fruits for years to realize their true potential.

An awakened Devil Fruit can increase the potency of attacks. Most characters try their best to awaken their Devil Fruits, but it is not an easy thing to do. In fact, even the most powerful One Piece characters fail to awaken their Devil Fruits.

7 Kaido

Kaido was the captain of the Beasts Pirates. He made a name for himself using his sheer physical strength. Even as a kid, Kaido was stronger than most of the adults around him. His power continued to grow with age, and he caught the eye of the World Government and the Rocks Pirates. Kaido ended up joining the crew of Rocks D. Xebec, where he met Big Mom, who gave him the Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu. Kaido nearly mastered the Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit. He could use the full beast form and the hybrid form. However, Kaido never awakened his Devil Fruit. While fighting Luffy, Kaido's hybrid form looked a bit different in certain situations, and many fans assumed that it was his Awakened Form. However, it was never explicitly stated by Oda that Kaido awakened his Devil Fruit.

6 Big Mom

Big Mom was the ruler of Totto Land and the captain of the Big Mom Pirates. Her crew was made up of her children, as she trusted them more than strangers. Big Mom was a freak of nature, and there weren't many One Piece characters who could match her strength.

She acquired her Soru Soru no Mi in the most bizarre way. Big Mom went on a rampage in Elbaf and ate Mother Carmel in her frenzy, causing the Devil Fruit's power to be passed down to her. The Soru Soru no Mi enabled Big Mom to rob people of their souls. After acquiring the souls, she could use them to breathe life into non-living objects and turn them into her loyal henchmen. Big Mom could even steal the life span of an individual, resulting in their death. Even after years of using the Soru Soru no Mi, she never took her Devil Fruit abilities to the next level.

5 Ace

Portgas D. Ace was the Second Division Commander of the Whitebeard Pirates. He left Mt. Colubo behind to start his pirating journey when he was only a teenager. Not long after he began his voyage, Ace found the Mera Mera no Mi. The Logia-type Devil Fruit gave him complete control over fire. He could create fire and mold it into any shape that he saw fit.

Ace was able to use all three types of Haki, but he lacked mastery over them. So, he mainly used his Devil Fruit to do the damage. One would assume that a character overly dependent on his Devil Fruit would have awakened it, but sadly, Ace never managed to do it.

4 Marco

Marco joined the Whitebeard Pirates as an apprentice, and over time he became Whitebeard's most trusted underling. Marco rose through the ranks and eventually became the First Division Commander of the crew. Marco is the user of the Tori Tori no Mi, Model: Phoenix, which is a Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit.

With the help of the Devil Fruit, Marco can transform into a phoenix covered with blue and yellow flames of regeneration. Marco's Devil Fruit enhances his physical abilities, enabling him to fight against the likes of Kizaru, Blackbeard, Big Mom, King, Queen, etc. Despite his experience, Marco couldn't awaken his Devil Fruit, which is a shame considering its mythical nature would have significantly increased his power.

3 King

King was the right-hand man of Kaido. He met Kaido long before the current timeline and swore to protect him at all costs. King ate the Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Pteranodon, an Ancient Zoan-type Devil Fruit, which granted him increased recovery and strength. King used his Devil Fruit in unorthodox ways to attack enemies, giving him the element of surprise.

King's Lunarian heritage enhanced his speed, durability, and vigor. Unfortunately, all of his abilities could not stop Zoro from defeating him. Maybe if King had awakened his Devil Fruit, the outcome of the fight could have been different.

2 Magellan

Magellan is the former chief warden of Impel Down. He was the main antagonist of the Impel Down arc, where he humiliated Luffy. Magellan was known for his terrifying strength, with which he maintained peace inside Impel Down.

He ate the Doku Doku no Mi, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that allowed him to create and control poison. Magellan used his power to quash any rumblings inside the facility. Magellan's Devil Fruit was so powerful that even Blackbeard was powerless to do anything, and he would have died if Shiryu had not provided him with the antidote. Considering the Devil Fruit's absurd power, Magellan would have been disappointed with his failure to awaken it.

1 Bartholomew Kuma

Bartholomew Kuma has a very interesting past. He was originally the king of Sorbet Kingdom, after which he became a Revolutionary, and before ending up as a pirate. At some point in the past, Kuma got his hands on the Nikyu Nikyu no Mi.

Kuma has used the Devil Fruit's powers in many unique ways. He can send someone flying to any part of the world. Kuma can push out a person's memories and pain and put them inside a paw-shaped bubble. Furthermore, he can use the paw-shaped pads on his hands to deflect all sorts of attacks. It would have been interesting to see Nikyu Nikyu no Mi's awakening, but given Kuma's present condition, it will probably never happen.
