One of the Emperors of the Sea, Blackbeard is an incredibly powerful individual who has risen through the ranks very quickly over the timeskip. Blackbeard was once a member of the Whitebeard Pirates, however, he always dreamed of making it big and when the opportunity arrived, he struck. He then went from strength to strength and reached an unprecedented level of fame and power in the One Piece world.
Blackbeard has established himself as an incredible villain in the story and he has done so by crushing some of the most powerful characters over the years.
7 Thatch
Defeated By Blackbeard Before Luffy's Journey
Thatch was the Fourth Division Commander of the Whitebeard Pirates. As an incredibly powerful individual, Thatch believed Teach to be his comrade, however, when he acquired the Yami Yami no Mi, Blackbeard wasted no time in attacking him from behind and killing him in the process.
He acquired the power of this fruit and consumed it. Immediately after doing that, he jumped ship and decided to start his own adventure, which is where his story began.
6 Jewelry Bonney
Defeated By Blackbeard After The Paramount War
10-year-old Jewelry Bonney was already making incredible waves and the world of pirates when she arrived on Sabaody 2 years prior to the current events of the story. Bonney stepped into the New World after the Paramount War, which is where she faced off against the Blackbeard Pirates.
Unfortunately, Bonney was defeated by Blackbeard and was chained, which is where Akianu found her eventually. The fight between Bonney and Blackbeard was not showcased, however, given the level of power that Blackbeard possessed, it must not have been a difficult fight for him, especially because Bonney was just 10 at the time.
5 Magellan
Defeated By Blackbeard At Impel Down
The Chief Warden of Impel Down, Magellan is a character who actually managed to defeat Blackbeard when they first met. The entire Blackbeard crew was one shot at by Magellan using his poisonous ability.
However, after the crew recovered, Magellan was utterly defeated by them and they certainly did learn from their mistakes. Blackbeard crushed him in battle and this was confirmed when he arrived on Marineford.
4 Portgas D. Ace
Defeated By Blackbeard On Banaro Island
One of the most incredible battles that Blackbeard fought in One Piece came against Ace. Fans know that Ace was on the lookout for Blackbeard ever since he murdered Thatch. While Ace could have pulled back from the fight after getting a taste of Blackbeard's powers, the moment he heard that Luffy was being targeted by this evil person, he had no choice but to fight.
Ace threw everything at Blackbeard, however, in the end, it was not enough. Blackbeard managed to defeat him and, in order to earn a position among the Seven Warlords of the Sea, he turned him over to the World Government.
3 Marco
Defeated By Blackbeard In The Grudge War
The First Division Commander of the Whitebeard Pirates, Marco became the temporary leader of the crew after Whitebeard died. He led the crew into the Grudge War against the Blackbeard Pirates in order to avenge the death of their pirate captain.
The Blackbeard Pirates fought against the Whitebeard Pirates to the best of their abilities and, it was no surprise for the fans to know that the Blackbeard Pirates defeated them soundly. In fact, following this defeat, the Whitebeard Pirates completely disbanded, however, it appears that the vast majority of them were able to survive.
2 Trafalgar Law
Defeated By Blackbeard On Winner Island
In the final saga of One Piece, Blackbeard was always going to be incredibly relevant and as soon as this phase of the story began, he started making moves. Blackbeard intercepted Trafalgar Law as he was headed northeast from the land of Wano. Inevitably, the two ended up engaging in combat on Winner Island. Law unleashed the power of his Ope Ope no Mi awakening against Blackbeard and actually managed to deal quite a good amount of damage to him.
However, Blackbeard did not hold back and struck with the power of the Gura Gura no Mi, as well as the Yami Yami no Mi. Fans saw bits from the fight, however, at the end of it all, it was Blackbeard who ended up winning this clash. The entirety of the Heart Pirates were crushed and Blackbeard would most definitely have killed Law and obtained his ability had it not been for Bepo. Thankfully, the polar bear mink saw to it that Law survived.
1 Whitebeard
Defeated By Blackbeard Pirates In The Paramount War
By far, the strongest character that Blackbeard defeated was none other than his former captain, Whitebeard. Now, this wasn't a straightforward defeat as Blackbeard did not actually beat him in one-on-one combat. Instead, he resorted to his dirty tactics, as he always does, and utilized the power of his entire crew to kill him. It must be noted that Whitebeard was already on his last legs at this point in the story.
He had a hole in his chest and half of his face blown off, and all of it came on the back of his already worsening health. When Whitebeard had one foot in the grave, Blackbeard decided to strike. The crew shot him full of bullets until he lost his life. On that day, Whitebeard died standing like a hero. However, the man responsible for the death was none other than Blackbeard.
