Summary

  • Urouge remains one of the least developed characters in One Piece, with minimal story and character development.
  • Fans are eagerly waiting for Urouge to have his moment in the spotlight and receive more backstory and information.
  • Urouge's potential return to the story could bring closure to his character and potentially reintroduce the idea of Sky Islands and Enel.

One Piece, ever since its release in 1997, has grown to be one of the biggest franchises of all time. With so many locations, characters, and moments, at times One Piece can feel too big for its own good. In fact, sometimes it feels like certain important characters are left behind without finishing their story or having any sort of character development in general, much to the disappointment of fans.

One of these characters, a member of One Piece’s Worst Generation, Urouge, has been almost completely absent from the story in general since his introduction. While most of the other Worst Generation members have received some sort of development, Urouge still has yet to receive anything to reveal more about the character. So far, the “Mad Monk” is one of the most mysterious figures in all of One Piece, and fans are still patiently waiting for more information on Urouge.

Introduced as a member of the Worst Generation during Sabaody Archipelago Arc. Here, the “Mad Monk” assists the other Supernovas in fighting against the Pacifistas, utilizing an unnamed Devil Fruit that allows him to grow stronger. Additionally, it is also shown that Urouge originated from the Sky Islands, and acted as a former high priest. However, sometime before the beginning of the show, he and his crew ended up in the Blue Sea, where he became a notorious pirate.

Amen. - Urouge

During One Piece’s time skip, Urouge makes his way with his crew to the New World, where he confronts and defeats one of the four Sweet Generals, Charlotte Snack. Afterward, Urouge is hunted down and defeated by Charlotte Cracker, causing him and his crew to flee. The last known appearance of Urouge was on a Sky Island, where he witnesses Kaido falling off in order to find a way to die. Currently, the character's last appearance was in chapter 795, well over 300 chapters ago. Additionally, this moment was a simple cameo with Urouge only briefly appearing before disappearing for the rest of the series so far.

Urouge Needs Time to Shine in One Piece

An Arc Just For Urouge

Urouge Muscular

With only a few appearances, the One Piece Supernova Urouge has had no time to shine on his own. Many of these moments either happened offscreen or were extremely brief with no time for development. In fact, almost all of these moments feature no mention of Urouge’s greater purpose in the show as a whole. Even Jewelry Bonney, who was originally in competition with Urouge as one of the least-mentioned Supernovas, was recently given tons of character development on Egghead Island.

Now, Urouge, a character in One Piece who hasn't met Luffy, is alone as the least developed member of the Worst Generation. However, based on his cool design, and the fact that other Supernovas have been developed as well, shows that Urouge still deserves to be a part of the story. His connection to Sky Island and his mysterious Devil Fruit are all things that could be explained by the time One Piece ends.

Urouge Could Mark the Return of Enel

Skypia Part 2?

Enel

Potentially, Urouge could rejoin the One Piece story in a similar way to Bonney during Egghead Island. Despite having almost no development before Egghead Island, every question about the character was answered. Giving Urouge his own Egghead Island-style arc would be a perfect way to bring the character's story to a close. Additionally, Urouge could also return the idea of the Sky Islands into the world of One Piece, potentially creating an avenue for another forgotten One Piece

He's going to be the eye of the storm.

It’s hard to believe that Oda has no plans for Urouge in the final saga of One Piece. With so many unanswered questions, like his connection to Sky Island, and his mysterious Devil Fruit, Urouge is bound to return to the story at one point. Even if he doesn’t receive as much development as other Worst Generation members, like Bonney or Law, it will still be nice to finally see how “Mad Monk” Urouge fits into the greater scheme of One Piece.
