One of the biggest in One Piece that fans want the answer to right now is the Abyss. Although it was first seen in the Egghead arc of the story, fans only truly knew what it was called in the Egghead arc, when the Holy Knights finally made their appearance in the land of the Giants.
One Piece: Figarland Garling's Yokai Power Has Been Right In Front Of Us This Whole Time
The Yokai powers of the Gorosei are some of the strongest and most mysterious powers, and Garling's may be the strongest of them all!
To put it simply, the Abyss is going to be key for the remainder of the Elbaf arc of One Piece, but it isn't just going to be important here. Oda will definitely incorporate it throughout the Final Saga, especially when the character of Imu comes into play more often than usual. While Oda has done his best to keep the Abyss under wraps, its secret has actually already been revealed.
What Is The Abyss In One Piece?
- The Mysterious Summoning Circle Of the Higher Ranked Celestial Dragons
- Only Those With a Mark Can Use It
The Abyss is a rather new power that fans were introduced to in One Piece’s Final Saga, starting with the Egghead arc. It was during this arc that Oda first showed Saint Saturn spawn on Egghead using a summoning circle of sorts and emerging out of it. This summoning circle looked absolutely demonic in nature, and at the same time, everyone on Egghead could sense abnormal Haki coming from it, suggesting that it was a big deal. Later, when the remainder of the Five Elders showed up on Egghead, they each spawned from their own summoning circle, thanks to Saturn, who acted as an anchor.
One Piece: Oda Has Already Revealed The Weakness Of The Holy Knights' Immortality
The Holy Knights are immortal. Oda has already hinted at the counter to their immortality in One Piece.
Only those with the mark can pass through the Abyss. — Saint Killingham
In the Elbaf arc, the Holy Knights came to the country and they also used the same summoning circle. It was then revealed that this circle is actually called the Abyss, and fans found out about this through Gunko. Interestingly enough, Killingham mentioned that only those who beat a certain mark can pass through the Abyss.
Why Access To The Abyss Is Linked To Imu's Devil Fruit Power
Imu’s Devil Fruit Power Allows Him To Use The Abyss
It is quite clear that whatever power the Five Elders have is also shared by the Holy Knights, meaning that together, these are the strongest of the World Government. But, the fact that they're all immortal is rather bizarre. Immortality does exist in the One Piece world and fans know that thanks to the existence of the Ope Ope no Mi. However, immortality can usually only be granted to one person, not a bunch. The answer to all that lies with one person, Imu. The reason why the Holy Knights and the Elders have access to the Abyss is Imu. As to how he does it, the answer is simple.
Saturn, why did you let Joy Boy escape? — Imu
Imu has a legendary Devil Fruit power that nobody in the One Piece world can even think of. It is the ability of the Leviathan. This Leviathan is known to be all-consuming, especially the eater of souls. In fact, in the bible, the mouth of Hell is called the Abyss, and inside the Abyss, the souls of all the sinners are thrown. This mouth is also known to be the mouth of the Leviathan. In other words, Imu can consume the souls of those who follow them, and in return, they get branded by a certain mark, and are bestowed with certain abilities. This includes the power of immortality, access to certain beastly abilities, and of course, access to the Abyss as well. Although a lot about the Abyss is still unknown, Oda will definitely throw more light on it later.
