One Piece's Elbaf arc has given quite a lot of importance to Haki, and rightly so. The series is in the Final Saga right now, and that means the Straw Hat Pirates will be up against the most dangerous powers of the world, which are largely made up of the World Government. Oda doesn't shy away from the fact that the World Government is the ultimate enemy in One Piece, and that beating them isn't going to be easy.
It's Real: Luffy Will Get A Stronger Final Transformation In One Piece
Gear 5 isn't the final power-up for Luffy. Oda has some big plans for him in the Final Saga of One Piece.
At the helm of the World Government is the secret sovereign of the world, Imu of the Nerona family, who controls the whole world. Under Imu are the Five Elders and the Holy Knights, all of whom possess an undying body and tremendous power. Imu personally bestowed tremendous power to all their followers, and the only way to defeat them is by using Conqueror's Haki, as explained by Scopper Gaban in the Elbaf arc. Oda is clearly setting up Sanji getting Conqueror's Haki in the Elbaf arc, and it is only a matter of time before he awakens and then masters it.

Sanji unlocking Conqueror's Haki might've been a point of debate at one point among the fans, but right now, it is quite clear that this power-up is inevitable for him. Sanji is incredibly strong and he most certainly strikes fear into the bones of some of the strongest characters in the story.

But, even the level of power that he possesses right now isn't enough to see him beat Imu's forces. To beat them, one needs to use Conqueror's Haki, as revealed by Gaban. Right now, only Luffy and Zoro can use it, and Zoro can't even control it, making him practically useless. If the Straw Hat Pirates are to survive in Elbaf, they need strong Conqueror's Haki users, and that's why both Zoro and Sanji need to step up.
Sanji, in particular, clearly stated that he's felt Conqueror's Haki within himself. But, unfortunately, he hasn't awakened this power just yet. That said, it is only a matter of time before he gets this ability. Sanji meets all the criteria required for attaining Conqueror's Haki. He has a very ambitious dream, just like finding the One Piece, and he has grit. Sanji is also a born leader, having taken control of the Straw Hat Pirates in the past, and in every way one looks at him, he has the qualities of a King. Most importantly, Sanji is quite literally a prince, which makes him a potential prince and someone with the blood of conquerors from the North Blue.

If that wasn't enough, then Sanji is officially the parallel of Scopper Gaban in the Straw Hat Pirates. In the Roger Pirates, all three main fighters, and both wings of the Pirate King could use Conqueror's Haki. In the Straw Hat Pirates, things will be the same as Sanji will get Conqueror's Haki soon.

Oda Has Already Teased Sanji's Immense Powers
Sanji needs Conqueror's Haki if he is to protect the ones he loves in Elbaf. Luffy, Loki, Gaban, and Zoro have this power, but that's not enough. Sanji too will need access to it because otherwise, he can't beat the likes of the Holy Knights or even the Domi Reversi'd version of Dorry and Brogy. Sanji getting Conqueror's Haki is guaranteed at this point, and it is only a matter of time before Oda shows him awakening it in One Piece.
