Roronoa Zoro is a member of the Straw Hat Pirates, and he makes up one-third of the Monster Trio. He joined the crew after Luffy rescued him from certain death in Shells Town. Like all Straw Hats, Zoro has personal goals that he wants to achieve.

Zoro wants to become the strongest swordsman in One Piece, and to achieve this goal, he must grow stronger and take down anyone who dares to stand in his way. In every arc, Zoro faces a new opponent who tests his capabilities, and that's exactly what happened in the Egghead arc as well. The swordsman has already beaten Kaku, but another challenge awaits him.

Why Zoro Will Fight Rob Lucci On Egghead Island

The Swordsman Must Protect His Friends

Roronoa Zoro fighting an enemy

As previously stated, Zoro defeated Kaku on Egghead Island, so one might question why the Straw Hat will fight another powerful foe. The simple answer is that things are about to get a lot worse. Kizaru and Saint Jaygarcia Saturn were already on their way to Egghead before CP0 had landed on the island. The reason being that Saturn was in charge of science and defense, so dealing with Dr. Vegapunk's betrayal was his responsibility. A member of the Five Elders would never travel alone, which is why Kizaru accompanied him.

The new trailer for the Egghead arc reveals that Kizaru arrives on the island and asks Luffy to surrender. There is also a short segment where Luffy can be seen attacking Kizaru. This confirms that Luffy's main opponent is going to be Kizaru, and the former will have his hands full trying to deal with the Admiral. So, the other Straw Hats have to handle other threats.

This is where things get interesting. In the same trailer, Roronoa Zoro can be seen charging at Rob Lucci, which more or less confirms that the pirate will fight the Cipher Pol agent. They have not engaged in a serious battle yet, but that will change when the One Piece anime returns.

Is Zoro Stronger Than Lucci?

  • Lucci has a Devil Fruit, and he can use Haki, and Rokushiki
  • Zoro is an expert swordsman who can use all three types of Haki

Since Zoro is going to fight Lucci, the question in everyone's mind will be whether the pirate has got what it takes to get the job done. To get a better understanding of Zoro's strength, it is imperative to peruse his current abilities.

The most important thing that Zoro needs to win the fight is Haki. Since he does not possess a Devil Fruit, Zoro has to rely on Haki to increase his damage output. Presently, Zoro has access to all three types of Haki. He had utilized Armament and Observation Haki many times after the timeskip, but he used Conqueror's Haki for the first time in Wano. However, he still doesn't have full control over Conqueror's Haki.

At the moment, Zoro needs to rely on Enma to draw out Haki from within him. Without the blade, he cannot use Conqueror's Haki. Considering the damage caused by attacks powered by Conqueror's Haki, it could be lights out for Lucci if Zoro manages to land a clean strike on him. But obviously the CP0 agent will not make things easy for him.

Lucci has an Awakened Zoan-type Devil Fruit, which grants him immense strength and speed. Moreover, Lucci can use Rokushiki, which enhances his physical abilities further. While Zoro's physical traits are impressive, they do not come close to Lucci's. So, Zoro will have to be cautious and not waste too much of his energy.

Lucci Is Stronger Of The Two

Based on evidence, Zoro has better Haki, but Lucci has better physical abilities and an Awakened Devil Fruit, which means the former is not on the same level as the CP0 agent. So, the odds are in Lucci's favor, but it would be remiss not to mention that Lucci has already taken a beating, while Zoro has hardly been tested. This could potentially come into play and affect the outcome of the fight. Despite Lucci being the favorite to win, it is likely that Zoro will likely emerge triumphant as that's the result needed for the story to progress. But if the outcome didn't affect the story, Lucci would win.
