  • First Appearance: Chapter 233, Episode 151

Buccaneers are an ancient race of people that existed during the Void century. They were taller and stronger than humans, making them great combatants. However, the race went nearly extinct because of the World Government. According to the information publicized by Oda, the Buccaneers committed a major transgression against the World Government, causing the organization to slaughter them ruthlessly.

So far, only two members of the race have been revealed, and they are Bartholomew Kuma and his father. After the World Government learned about the two, it didn't waste any time enslaving them. Both of Kuma's parents died in captivity, but his torment continued. It wasn't until the God Valley Incident that Kuma ran away from captivity.

Prominent Members: Bartholomew Kuma managed to make a name for himself with his strength. He ate the Nikyu Nikyu no Mi, which led to the development of paw-like pads on his hands. This enabled Kuma to deflect incoming attacks, send people away, and remove physical pain from his body and that of others.

Special Ability: The Buccaneers are physically bigger than most races in One Piece, giving them an edge in combat.
