At the same time, Oda revealed to the fans that Garling got together with a red-haired woman in God Valley during this time. 39 years ago, Shanks and Shamrock had already been born in God Valley, and they were both with a red-haired woman. This woman is clearly their mother, who happens to be a regular human. She doesn't appear to be Garling's wife, but still the mother of the children nonetheless. By the looks of it, she loves both Shanks and Shamrock quite a lot. However, little did she know that they would be stripped from her soon.
38 years ago, during the God Valley Incident, Shanks and Shamrock were separated, and it is highly likely that their mother died as well. Shamrock ended up with Garling Figarland, while Shanks ended up being taken by none other than the Roger Pirates. After all these years, Oda finally confirmed the story surrounding Shanks's birth. This practically means that Shanks is only half-Celestial Dragon, and it explains why the Celestial Dragons disgust him.

Right now, fans know very well that Shanks's secrets are still not fully clear. Fans don't know what his relationship with Garling is like exactly. It is also unclear why he went back to Marijoa, and why he eventually severed his connections with his family. Shanks and Shamrock's relationship also remains to be fully explored. Clearly, there is still a lot about Shanks that's unclear in the manga right now, and fans absolutely cannot wait to see what Oda does with his character as the story moves forward.
For now, more about Shanks's early life will be revealed in the chapters about the God Valley Incident and those after it. Alongside that, fans will also see a ton of other exciting things from him, such as his battles with Mihawk, and of course, the fight against Loki as well. It will all come together in the next few chapters of One Piece.
