For instance, Oda has already made it clear in the story that Luffy’s father is the leader of the Revolutionary Army. That said, the mystery surrounding Luffy's mother still remains. Whether or not she'll appear in the Final Saga remains to be seen, but Oda has already commented on her once, and it certainly does seem that she's going to be involved in the story at some point.

The Mystery Of Luffy's Mother

  • Oda Has Never Revealed Luffy's Mom
  • Fans Don't Know If She's Alive

Luffy might be one of the most carefree people in the One Piece world, and he doesn't particularly bother with knowing whether he has a mom and a dad or not, but fans certainly aren't wired the way. One Piece fans have always wondered who Luffy's family is, and although Oda revealed one of his two parents long ago, that being Dragon, the mystery of his mother still remains. Fans know very little about Dragon, the leader of the Revolutionary Army, and so far, Oda hasn't dropped any hints about Luffy having a mother who is alive.

Dad? I have a dad? I had no idea. — Luffy

If there's one thing that fans can be sure about, it is that Oda will eventually reveal his whole family to the fans. Dragon will have his entire past elaborated upon, which means that Oda will most definitely show Luffy's mother as well. Whether or not she's alive, fans don't know, but Oda could go either way when it comes to his mom. That said, Oda has previously commented on Luffy's mom.

Oda's Comments On Luffy's Mom

Oda Thinks Luffy's Mom Is Alive

Although there's been limited information on Luffy's mom, Oda has been asked about her on multiple occasions. On one such occasion, he chose to answer the question properly, thanks to which fans now know that Luffy's mom might very well be alive. Here's what Oda has to say about her:

Q: What was Luffy's mother like? Was she beautiful? What happened to her? Did she die when Luffy was a baby?

Oda: I think she's alive. I'm still thinking hard about this. [Laughs]

But if she does appear in the story, then she'll be a very tough-looking woman. And strict. There's no way that she's a beautiful mother. She's got this typical middle-aged woman's permed hair... Speaking about families, I did a backstory of Nico Robin and her family. That was actually the first time for me to draw a mother in a character's memory. Up until that point, I'd never drawn a blood relation. There were cases where you call someone who's not blood-related your mother. In Chopper's case, he's called a son even though he's not blood-related. So I've put in a message there saying that you can still call someone who's not related by blood your family.

Based on Oda's comments, he has a rough idea of what Luffy's mom is going to be like. There's most certainly a reason Luffy doesn't know her and based on that Kuma flashback, it is quite clear. Dragon considers a child to be a parent's weakness, which is likely why both Dragon and his mother have kept him away. Luffy's mother might be a part of the Revolutionary Army as well, although the chances of that being the case are low.

Will Luffy's Mom Finally Show Up?

The Final Saga Is The Perfect Stage

Although Luffy's mom hasn't shown up in the story just yet, fans can say for sure that Oda will draw her in the Final Saga. As soon as the story focuses on the past of Monkey D. Dragon, the leader of the Revolutionary Army, everything about him, such as his past life with the Navy, and even the relationship that he shared with the mysterious woman who became Luffy's mom, will definitely be revealed.

From there onwards, it is up to Oda whether he'll give her an important role or not. But, it goes without saying that a character as important as Luffy's mother should be given a very important role in the story.
