Luffy’s Fate At The End Of One Piece

Luffy Will Not Die

The One Piece manga has entered its final saga, and with that, the looming realization that the series is now getting closer to its end is definitely something hard for fans to come to terms with. After all, the One Piece manga has been going on for almost 3 decades, and many are very attached to this world and its characters created by Eiichiro Oda. Nevertheless, the series still has a while to go as the final saga will not be a short one.

One thing that plagues many fans is the fate of Monkey D. Luffy at the end of the story. After all, he’s the protagonist, and Oda might want to shock fans at the end of the series. This is why many believe Oda could choose to have Luffy die at the end of One Piece. However, that won’t be the case. Oda has already hinted at how One Piece will end, and it can’t be achieved if Luffy dies.

“I'm Going to Become King of the Pirates!" — Monkey D. Luffy

Oda has previously said that he loves to draw parties, and he wants to end the One Piece series with a huge one. If Luffy dies, that can’t really happen, so for Oda to complete his ideal ending, Luffy has to survive. This is the exact statement for Oda:

"The reason I don't want to draw scenes where people die is because I want to draw a party after the battle. If someone dies, you can't have an enjoyable party. A party is my ideal form of friendship. I want to end with One Piece with a big party." — Eiichiro Oda

This definitely goes against what many fans of One Piece believe. After all, Luffy has a lot of death flags himself, and a lot of them have been accumulated throughout his adventure. For example, his life span was chipped away during his infiltration of Impel Down when he had to recover from Magellan’s deadly poison. And even besides that, it was stated that his Gears eat away at his life span as well. All of this is definitely planned by Oda, but there will be some way showcased in One Piece to counter this, as Luffy can’t die. Or, it could just be that Luffy dies young after his adventure, but not before the series ends.
