This pirate existed hundreds of years ago, and fans were clearly told that he was legendary in his own right. This person was of such importance that even Rocks knew about him, and he is none other than Davy Jones.

Oda Finally Reveals Davy Jones As A Legendary Pirate

One Piece chapter 1155 expanded upon the legendary Rocks D. Xebec. Fans were given a proper look at Rocks in One Piece chapter 1154, and in One Piece chapter 1155, Oda showed his beginning to life as a pirate. It all began with his attack on Marijoa, which happened 56 years ago. While fans already knew that the invaded Marijoa, One Piece chapter 1155 shocked the fans by shown Rocks actually making it all the way to the Room of Flowers. There, he managed to meeti Imu and threaten him with the lives of 5 Kings. Of course, it didn't work as Imu didn't care about them, but Rocks promised to return one day.

More than that, Rocks claimed to be a worshipper of Davy Jones. In other words, Rocks knew of the existence of Davy Jones, a legendary pirate of the old era. The fact that Rocks mentioned Davy Jones to Imu means that Rocks was certain that Davy Jones held a connection to even Imu, and that they shared some deep history. Clearly, this is a very strong implier of the fact that Davy Jones was born during the Void Century, just like Joy Boy.

Fans don't know everything about Davy Jones, but One Piece chapter 1155 takes one back to the Davy Back Fights in Long Ring Long Land. It was here that Robin and Sanji explained the lore behind Davy Jones. This was a legendary pirate who was cursed by the Devil to live on the sea floor. It is said that he lays claim to all the treasure that sinks, and all the pirate ships that go to the sea floor. Since the world of One Piece has been sunk, likely more than once, Davy Jones is, in essence, King of the Drowned World. Since Davy Jones keeps everything that sinks to him, pirates often refer to taking what you want from your enemies as Davy Back.

Davy Jones Is Said To Be Alive

According to Robin, Davy Jones still sails the seafloor to this day, which means that Davy Jones might still be alive. Whether that is true or not remains to be seen, but one thing is clear, and that's Davy Jones was alive during Joy Boy's era, and most likely vied for power alongside Imu. It is likely that he was the user of the Yami Yami no Mi, and his betrayal led to Imu cursing him, and sinking him to the seafloor.
