One Piece is the most popular manga in the world, and for good reasons. Eiichiro Oda, the mangaka of the series, has created an incredible world with fascinating characters, and the story definitely doesn’t disappoint, showcasing a ton of lore and mystery.
One Piece: Oda Has Already Revealed The Pirate King Before Roger
Roger is the only known pirate to hold the title of pirate king, but Oda has already revealed his predecessor in One Piece.
Stakes in One Piece are always high, and often, the intensity shoots through the roof, but Oda doesn’t love to kill characters. That has changed greatly in the Final Saga, however. In fact, Oda has dropped plenty of hints about a major death set to happen in the Elbaf arc as these major death flags can’t be overlooked in One Piece.
The Major Deaths In One Piece
Portgas D. Ace and Whitebeard Are Two of Many
One Piece isn’t necessarily a series known for killing off characters, but when it does kill off a character, it’s usually an insane moment. Oda rarely kills off characters just for the sake of it, which is what makes it more impactful when characters do die.
For example, the Summit War arc, one of the series’s biggest arcs, had quite a few impactful deaths that shook the One Piece fandom. First and foremost, Ace’s death came as a shocker — after all, fans believed that he was safe since Luffy did manage to rescue him. Ace’s character impacts the One Piece story even now, so long after his death.
If I yield to power, there's no point in being born a man. I'll never leave anything to regret later in my life. — Portgas D. Ace
Another major death in this arc was that of Whitebeard. Whitebeard and his crew had a huge impact, and Whitebeard himself showed his strength even in old age, before being eventually killed.
Even after the timeskip, fans have seen some deaths, such as Pedro’s in Whole Cake Island, and Yasuie in Wano. Kaido and Big Mom could also possibly be dead, but Oda has yet to fully confirm that. Recently, even Saint Saturn ended up dying.
Oda Drops Major Hints About The Next Major Death
Garp Might Be The Next Big Death
While there have been quite a lot of deaths after the timeskip of One Piece, there has yet to be one anywhere near as impactful as Ace or Whitebeard’s. However, Oda might definitely have something planned for Garp. He has the biggest death flags right now in the series.
One Piece: Oda Reveals How He Almost Ended The Story During Dressrosa
The One Piece story could have ended abruptly during the Dressrosa arc. Oda reveals why.
Garp was captured by the Blackbeard Pirates after he saved Koby, and it's not looking too good for him. The Blackbeard Pirates might want to publicly execute Garp, similarly to what happened with Ace.
Keep living and you will find out. — Garp To Ace
Of course, Luffy and others, such as Koby won’t just sit still and let it happen. It could be the start of a huge conflict, where, in the end, Garp dies just like Ace did in the Marineford War.
