Curiously enough, one the Straw Hats also hold this ability.

The Power of the Devil Fruits in One Piece

One of the Two Main Power Systems in The Series

Devil Fruits are definitely the most iconic power that exists in the One Piece world. It’s unique when compared to other stories, and for some time, they were the only real power system in One Piece. Later on, Haki was properly introduced and incorporated.

Devil Fruits are divided into three categories: Paramecia, Logia, and Zoan. These categories themselves can have subcategories. There is a subcategory of Paramecia, known as Special Paramecia. The only known person to have a fruit of this kind is Katakuri.

For Zoans, there are two subcategories - Ancient and Mythical Zoans. For Logias, no known subcategory exists.

Devil Fruits are intriguing and often mysterious. Their origin has been hinted at in the story, but the whole mystery has yet to be fully resolved. One thing that fans know, however, is that they did not always exist. There were no Devil Fruits during the times of the first Nika. Instead, these Devil Fruits came from people’s imagination in the Second World. A lot remains unknown about them, and fans will have to wait and see what Oda has in store for them.

The Most Special Type of Devil Fruits - Soul-Based Powers

  • A Power Held by the Likes of Big Mom and Brook
  • Imu’s Powers Could Also Be Related to That

As fans know, with every new arc, new villains appear, usually stronger and more fierce than the previous ones. The Holy Knights and Five Elders are two powerful groups that made their move in the final saga, and both of them share one terrifying ability — infinite regeneration and immortality.

There are a lot of questions concerning this ability, and fans have been wondering how anyone can counter it. Gaban knows a way to counter it, probably utilizing Haki, but there might be another way to do that, and it lies in a very special kind of devil fruit.

Some Devil Fruits in One Piece have the ability to affect a person’s soul. The best example of this is none other than Big Mom, the user of the Soru Soru no Mi, literally the Soul Soul fruit.

Another huge example is Brook, a member of the Straw Hat Pirates. He has the Yomi Yomi no Mi. This devil fruit’s abilities also are based on soul powers.

Although less obvious, the Ope Ope no Mi, Law’s Devil Fruit, also has an ability related to that. Law can switch souls and personalities, as seen in Punk Hazard.

“MU WILL SHOW THEE THE DOMINION OF GODS.” — Gunko Imu

Soul Damaging Devil Fruits could be a huge asset to have in the final saga and Oda might choose to explore this concept further. This power is also why many believe Big Mom has to return to the story, as she could have a huge role to play. Elbaf would be her time to shine, especially as she has an important connection to this land due to her backstory.

Someone else who could have powers related to the soul is actually Saint Imu. After all, Imu seems to be able to grant characters powers, as well as make them immortal. Imu can even take over and control some characters, in a way that seems to be affecting their souls, as seen with Gunko and her split personality. However, nothing is revealed yet, and fans will have to see what Imu’s powers exactly entail. It’s not impossible that Imu will have an ability similar to Big Mom’s but more powerful in every way possible.
