Luffy’s Parents Were a Huge Mystery For The Majority of One Piece
Oda Revealed Luffy’s Father Monkey D. Dragon In Water 7
Monkey D. Luffy is the beloved protagonist of the One Piece series. Fans have been following Luffy on his adventures since the very first arc, Romance Dawn, but it took a long time for fans to learn more about him, specifically his lineage.
Who Luffy’s parents are was a huge mystery that One Piece fans wanted Oda to explore. Back, before Water 7, fans didn’t even know who Luffy’s father was. Eventually, however, Oda had Garp confirm his identity as Monkey D. Dragon, the leader of the Revolutionary Army. Dragon was seen in action all the way back in Logue Town, so such a reveal was long overdue for fans.
Oda has yet to reveal to fans more about Luffy’s other parent, his mother. In the most recent One Piece chapter, however, Oda showcased a character who could fit the role.

Big questions surround Luffy’s mother in One Piece. Whether Oda will ever even reveal anything about her is not a certainty either. After all, she could very well be an irrelevant character that never shows up.
But One Piece fans still hold on to hope for her, especially with the new One Piece chapter, chapter 1156, showcasing a character who many believe could be Luffy’s mother.
One Piece 1156 covers a flashback that focuses on the Roger and Kuja Pirates. In this flashback, fans see three women, two of whom would eventually become Empresses of the Kuja. One of these women is Tritoma, who was the Kuja Empress before Boa Hancock. Oda had previously revealed her in an SBS, but this was her first official manga appearance.

Fans have quickly pointed out how similar Tritoma and Luffy look. It’s definitely not impossible that Tritoma is Luffy’s mother, but for now, the evidence remains quite weak, and the only thing going for fans is some similar features. Other than that, her and Dragon's age lines up, with Dragon being 55 currently, and Tritoma looking around 10-14 around 44 years ago.
