One Piece: Oda Has Already Set Up A Major Death In Elbaf

There are many characters with death flags on their heads in the final saga of One Piece.

It is quite clear that Loki's importance is going to shoot through the roof in this chapter, and Oda has already put a special label on him. Loki is special in many ways, but perhaps the most special thing about him is his Devil Fruit, which Oda has teased on many occasions, and the powers of which might've been hinted at already in One Piece.

Loki's Special Status In One Piece

  • Loki Has A Special Bounty on His Head
  • Loki Has A Special Devil Fruit

It isn't hard to see that Oda has special plans for Loki in One Piece. Having been set up in the story in Whole Cake Island, fans knew Elbaf would be great for Loki. He's introduced to the fans as the Accursed Prince and built up to be a villain, but clearly, Loki isn't a villain at all. In fact, Oda has emphasized on many occasions that the specialty of Loki is a positive for Luffy and his journey. After all, Loki is confirmed to be Luffy's ally.

I am the Sun God who will destroy the world! — Loki in One Piece

Coming over to how Oda emphasized Loki's special status, fans already know that Loki has a special bounty. In the world of One Piece, no character is known to hold a special bounty but Loki. Sanji is the only one that comes close due to having an “Only Alive" bounty. Secondly, Loki has a Devil Fruit that was passed down Elbaf’s royal family, likely to safeguard it for a certain someone. Of course, Loki believes himself to be the Sun God, but his ability is somewhat different.

Most importantly, Loki is already shown to fight alongside Luffy in the Elbaf mural, which basically confirms that he will fight Imu in the final saga. In other words, Loki's special powers are very important to fight Imu.

Loki One Piece Major Change Oda
One Piece: Oda Makes A Big Change To The Character Of Loki

Loki got a pretty significant change to his character design in One Piece. Here's what Oda did.

By

Could Loki Have The Power Of The Mother Flame?

Loki Could Power Up The Ancient Weapons

If there's one thing that fans know will be key in the Final Saga of One Piece, it is the ancient weapons, and Loki might have a connection to them. Loki calls himself the Sun God, but he doesn't have the power of the Nika fruit. That said, the Harley conflates the Sun God with the Sun in some instances, and the Sun itself refers to the fuel for the Ancient Weapons, Mother Flame.

The Sun did nothing but spread the fires of war. — Harley

While Egghead revealed the truth about the Ancient Weapons, Elbaf could show the key to the Ancient Weapons, and that is Loki's Devil Fruit. This could be one of the reasons why it was being saved for this era.

Loki And Luffy's Alliance

If Loki has the Sun Devil Fruit, then it also explains why he thinks he is Nika. It would also explain his special role in the Final Saga, given that Luffy will have to use the Ancient Weapons at some point, but he lacks the fuel to activate them. Loki could be of great help there and fans know that he will be involved in the battle vs Imu, meaning Imu's very own Mother Flame could be countered by Loki. The hint that Oda dropped is very subtle, but fans can only hope that it's true. Right now, the likeliest Devil Fruit for Loki is the Sun Sun Fruit.
