This article contains spoilers from One Piece's Elbaf Arc.

One of the biggest and most exciting parts of being a fan of One Piece is crafting exciting theories about the incredible world that Oda has established and the characters that he has written. The world of One Piece is so incredibly vast that fans often wonder about the individual character arcs of their favorite characters and, at the same time, theorize about the various mysteries that remain unanswered to this day. Of course, the vast majority of these theories turn out to be wrong, but sometimes, fans hit the bull's-eye with their theories, which is precisely what makes being a fan of One Piece as great as it is.

In the Elbaf Arc, just like any other arc in One Piece, fans went on to theorize about quite a lot of things, and one of the biggest theories that emerged was pertaining to the legendary pirate Rocks D. Xebec and his son. As fans know, Rocks's entire story was revealed to the fans in this arc, and what was one of the biggest theories that has been around for years is now officially dead.

Buggy Was Speculated To Be Rocks's Son

  • Buggy And Rocks Share Many Similarities
  • Buggy and Rocks are physically similar
  • Oda drew them with the same bounty poster

Before Rocks was even revealed to fans in One Piece, a very popular theory emerged that linked him directly to none other than Buggy, a pirate that fans originally met at the very beginning of the story. As fans know, Buggy was taken in by none other than Roger, and sailed with him for a very long time, just like Shanks. Since Roger got Shanks from God Valley, most fans connected Buggy to God Valley as well. Shanks turned out to be the son of Garling Figarland, which is why most fans assumed that Buggy would be the son of Rocks D. Xebec.

When Rocks was finally shown to the fans, his facial expressions looked remarkably similar to Buggy on one side, and Blackbeard on the other. At the same time, even his bounty poster was like an homage to Buggy's bounty poster as fans know it. Most importantly, Rocks had blue hair just like Buggy. There were way too many similarities that connected these two, and thus, what was once a flimsy theory suddenly gained a lot of solid proof.

  • Rocks And Eris Had Marshall D. Teach Together

At one point, it was quite clear for the fans to see that Buggy was Rocks' son, but this all changed towards the end of the flashback when it was revealed that Rocks fell in love with Eris. It was revealed that Rocks was so deeply in love with her that he even forgot about Shakuyaku, which was truly a surprise. The fact is that Buggy was born after Blackbeard, so for Rocks to have another child with someone else is quite clearly impossible. As such, one of One Piece's biggest theories died in the Elbaf arc, but that doesn't mean Buggy cannot be connected to Rocks in any way.

Buggy Could Still Be From The Davy Clan

Quite clearly, Buggy isn't the son of Rocks as things stand, and unless Oda goes to retcon the plot point of Rocks being deeply committed to Eris, a connection between these two can no longer be established. However, Buggy could still be a member of the Davy Clan. The fact is that Buggy has some kind of fate driving him forward in One Piece. He has even previously mentioned becoming the King of the World, just like Davy D. Jones was in the past. He resembles Rocks in terms of appearance, and his hair resembles that of the Davy clan as well.

Blackbeard might have inherited the hair of Eris, but the fact is that Buggy clearly has the hair of Rocks D. Xebec. Even if Buggy is not the son of Rocks, he could still be the son of someone else from the Davy Clan.

If you become the Pirate King, then I shall become the God of the world. — Buggy to Luffy

It is quite clear that the Davy Clan was alive and well in God Valley up until 38 years ago. When this clan was wiped out, Buggy was already born, which means that he could easily have been smuggled out from the island before its eventual destruction. When taking into consideration all these physical similarities, along with the fact that this bounty poster itself looks like that of Buggy, and the fact that Buggy's true identity remains hidden to this day, one can safely come to the conclusion that he is well and truly connected to Davy still.

Fans often underestimate Buggy in One Piece, and that is largely because of his being used for comic relief at times. Oda is a master of subverting expectations, and this comic relief character can actually go on to reach the top of the world and become the next king when Blackbeard fails to do so. In doing so, he could go on to fulfill the will of Davy, and that could be a truly exciting twist at the end of the story.

  • Buggy and Blackbeard share a common enemy

Another intriguing thing that fans need to keep in mind about Buggy is that Oda is slowly going to bring him close to Blackbeard. While it is not apparent yet, we have previously highlighted that Buggy and Blackbeard are driven by the same goals at this point in time, and they have common enemies as well. They are both looking to solidify their own organizations, and the best thing for them to do would be to join hands when they face a threat bigger than themselves.

Buggy is the leader of the Cross Guild who are openly hunting down Marines. For now, the Navy has not taken any drastic action, but with the death of Vice Admiral T-Bone and likely many others to follow, the Navy will have to respond. At the same time, the Navy also has to deal with the problem of Garp. Garp was taken by Blackbeard and has since remained in captivity. If Garp is executed, the Navy will lose all honor around the world, and they simply cannot let that stand either.

Individually, the Navy should be able to destroy both the Blackbeard Pirates and the Cross Guild, and both of these Yonko crews realize that as well. That is why, in the face of the Navy, the best thing for them to do would be to ally together. This would also give Buggy the perfect chance to steal the Road Poneglyphs from Blackbeard and reach the One Piece. Regardless of what fans think of them as allies, Buggy and Blackbeard will be together soon, and this could be another way of Oda telling the fans that the Davy are going to reunite once again. Once they do, the Navy will face a crushing defeat in battle, and the final segment of One Piece will truly kick start.
