With the Final Saga of One Piece having begun, Oda is finally revealing all sorts of mysteries that he held on to for decades. He is also revealing the strength of various characters that he saved for the Final Saga, such as Shanks. One of the things that fans have wanted to see for over a decade now is Dragon's Devil Fruit power. Monkey D. Dragon is Luffy's very own father, but more than that, he is the leader of the Revolutionary Army in the world of One Piece, and he holds tremendous importance in the overarching plot of the story that seeks to overthrow the World Government and establish a just era. Dragon was once a member of the Navy, but his own sense of justice led him to establish the Revolutionary Army, and he couldn't have done so without wielding tremendous powers.

Dragon is undoubtedly a Devil Fruit user, and this is something that Oda has strongly implied in the story on multiple occasions. The question is what Devil Fruit power Dragon has, and the answer to this question has been slowly and carefully sprinkled by the author across various arcs. One Piece's most recent arc, Elbaf, has also quietly delivered a big hint about Dragon's Devil Fruit power to the fans.

Dragon's Devil Fruit Remains A Huge Mystery In One Piece

First things first, fans need to acknowledge the fact that Dragon truly does have Devil Fruit power up his sleeve. Most powerful individuals in the world of One Piece have Devil Fruits. However, having a Devil Fruit isn't the only way someone can be strong in the story. As is quite clear in the story, there are two main powers that elite fighters in the world of One Piece utilize:

  1. Devil Fruit
  2. Haki

Usually, the strongest of all utilize both at the same time. Devil Fruits offer various powers with unimaginable abilities, some of which are incredibly overpowered. On the other hand, Haki makes use of the spirit of the user and, when trained properly, can also take a user very far. In fact, the Pirate King Gol D. Roger did not have any Devil Fruit and relied purely on Haki in battle.

Devil Fruits can only take you so far. It is Haki that truly conquers all! — Kaido to Luffy

Theoretically, it could easily be that Dragon simply relies on his Haki in battle, but so far, what he has shown in this story has already confirmed that he possesses a Devil Fruit power. When Dragon first debuted in One Piece during the Loguetown arc, he caused a huge storm that took the whole town by surprise. Rains lashed and winds blew people away, and lightning struck wherever Dragon wanted. This was clearly the utilization of a Devil Fruit power. In fact, Dragon even utilized a named attack during this arc, called Wind Blast, which all but confirms that he has a Devil Fruit power up his sleeve. His fruit allows him to manipulate an element of weather in some way.

Later down the line, when Dragon saved Sabo, fans once again saw him utilizing a weird ability with which he could fly. Without a Devil Fruit, saving Sabo would've been impossible. When he reunited with his team in the very same flashback, he was seen with a smoky aura after he descended from the skies. Dragon has a Devil Fruit that gives him the ability to fly, and Oda dropped a big hint about it in the Elbaf arc.

Oda Quietly Snuck In Dragon's Devil Fruit Powers In Elbaf's Nightmare Projection

One of the most interesting things about Oda's writing style is that he often sneaks in hints about the lore, as well as abilities that various characters hold, in the most unexpected of places. A perfect opportunity arose for him when Killingham started using his MMA projections in Elbaf. With Killingham's Devil Fruit ability, he can make the nightmares of everyone into a reality, and when utilized on Elbaf's children, he was able to give rise to all sorts of fears that children have.

The thing I fear the most is…the storm! — Elbaf Children

For instance, some children in Elbaf feared Nika, and through their imagination, an evil version of Nika came to life. Similarly, others feared the Nidhogg dragon, and as such, the Nidhogg dragon appeared in Elbaf to cause large-scale destruction. Many others, such as the Draugr, the Fenrir, and even trolls and goblins, showed themselves in Elbaf through this projection. Amidst all this chaos, Oda also snuck in a projection of the Storm. This storm caused lightning strikes from the sky's rain, as well as harsh winds.

Quite clearly, this is a hint character in One Piece that represents none other than Monkey D. Dragon. It must be remembered that Oda has always associated the storm with the D. Law famously quoted to Doflamingo that the D will always bring a storm. Right now, this applies to Dragon more than anyone else.

Taking into consideration the powers that he utilized in Loguetown and later down the line when he saved Sabo, as well as Oda's habit of making use of hint characters across the series, it can be assumed that Dragon's Devil Fruit ability is the Storm Storm Fruit.

Dragon Has The Power Of Flight And Weather Manipulation

Dragon having a storm-related Devil Fruit should not come as a surprise to any fan. After all, he can manipulate winds to a level where they can overwhelm an entire town. On top of that, Dragon can cause rain and even lightning strikes with his Devil Fruit powers. Dragon can even fly, which is how he saved Sabo in the first place, and all this is down to the powers of his Devil Fruit. Quite clearly, Dragon's Devil Fruit allows him to be a calamity of nature, and usually, natural abilities are tied to the Logia class. It is highly likely that Dragon has a Logia-type Storm Storm Fruit, and that he is one of the strongest characters in the entire world of One Piece.

A pirate, huh? So be it! Let the winds of fate guide you! — Monkey D. Dragon

It is Oda's style to hide massive secrets of the One Piece world through hint characters. It seems that the projection that Killingham made of storm as one of the biggest fears of Elbaf's children is a hint at the power of Monkey D. Dragon. Given that One Piece is in the Final Saga right now, it is only a matter of time before Oda reveals all of Dragon's abilities. The Revolutionary Army has already made a move against the World Government, and it is only a matter of time before Dragon clashes against the powerful Holy Knights. Once that happens, Oda will unleash the fury of his Devil Fruit powers, and it is most certainly going to be a power related to storms.
