This article contains spoilers from One Piece's Elbaf arc.

The Elbaf arc of One Piece officially began last year, and almost a year in now, fans are convinced that this is one of One Piece's very best arcs. Despite a year-long run, Elbaf is nowhere near its conclusion, which means fans who are eagerly waiting for Oda to reveal the events of the outside world will have to wait patiently.

The events of the Elbaf arc are fascinating, and they will change the world of One Piece for good. One thing that fans might not realize is that Elbaf functions in such a way that the One Piece will actually get a big timeskip once the arc is over and the Straw Hats leave the Warland. This has been confirmed by the author, Eiichiro Oda himself, and not only has he highlighted this once, but on three separate occasions already.

Why A Second Timeskip After Elbaf Is Already Confirmed In One Piece

  • Imu Waited Too Long For The Holy Knights

The Elbaf arc of One Piece is nowhere close to ending at the moment, but that matters little. Oda has already established the idea of a timeskip after the events of Elbaf, and the way that he's gone about it is quite clever. As One Piece fans know, the series entered the timeskip after the events of the Summit War, and during this two-year timeskip, Luffy and the Straw Hats trained to get stronger. The upcoming timeskip after Elbaf will be different in nature.

The post-Elbaf timeskip won't see the story move years ahead into the future, and the Straw Hats won't split up either. When the crew leaves Elbaf, time will have moved way faster than in Elbaf, which means lost time for the Straw Hats, and hence, a timeskip for the rest of the world.

This might be confusing to some fans, but Oda has already confirmed it in his story. The very first hint came from Louis Arnote, who warned fellow visitors to never overstay their welcome in Elbaf. On its own, it might not be much, but then, one also needs to look at Imu's statement upon their arrival in Elbaf. The first thing Imu did was complain about how long it was taking the Holy Knights to get the kids to Marijoa. In Elbaf, it felt like a few hours at best, but to Imu, this was probably days, especially given that they came to Elbaf themself to get the job done.

Moreover, Oda also went on to reveal in the Loki flashback that time is somewhat different in and outside of Elbaf. When Shanks and Gaban were bathing, Gaban said that it had been around 3-4 years since Roger died, but Shanks corrected him, saying that it had actually been 10 years since. Clearly, Gaban’s perception of time was messed with.

The idea behind the second timeskip that Oda has already established is that time in Elbaf is perceived differently. Note that time itself doesn't flow differently in Elbaf. If it did, it would've messed up a lot of things in the world of One Piece. But, those in Elbaf perceive time to flow more slowly for some reason.

What Time Being Perceived Slower In Elbaf Means For The One Piece World

Many Weeks or Months Will Have Passed When Luffy Leaves Elbaf

When the Elbaf arc ends, Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates will have spent a good amount of time in the country, especially if they are to recover. If they spend 1 month in Elbaf, then the outside world could've moved forward by about 3.5 months, which is a huge timeskip. It means the war between the Revolutionary Army and the World Government will reach a high level, or worse, might've already ended. It also means that the other Yonko could've taken the lead over Luffy. Regardless of what Oda does, one thing is for sure, One Piece is getting a second timeskip, and it can only be good news for the fans of the story.
