Finally, One Piece chapter 1154 has introduced Rocks properly to the fans, and now, it is clear that Oda will reveal a lot more details about him, including his abilities. As far as One Piece’s strongest go, most are known to be Devil Fruit users, and Oda has dropped a big hint about Rocks being a Devil Fruit user already.

Roger Had Stronger Haki Than Rocks

  • Gol D. Roger Is The Best Haki User In Recent History
  • Kaido Believes Roger's Haki Was The Strongest

First things that fans need to understand is that Kaido has a clear idea of how strong Rocks D. Xebec was, and at the same time, how strong Roger was as well. He saw Rocks in his very prime, and he knew what Roger went on to become later down the line. According to Kaido himself, it is Haki that conquers all. Meaning, a strong Devil Fruit ability can only take you so far. To truly conquer, a Devil Fruit user must work on their Haki as well, which explains why Kaido had such great control over all Haki types.

Only Haki can conquer all. Roger proved it! — Kaido

However, while that certainly makes sense, it is important to note that Kaido believes the exemplary individual when it comes to Haki usage is none other than Roger. Despite having seen Rocks, Whitebeard, and all the other monsters like Shiki, Roger stood out to him for Haki. This is a clear indication that Roger had stronger Haki than Rocks.

Why Rocks D. Xebec Must've Had A Devil Fruit

Rocks D. Xebec Was Stronger Than Roger At One Point

The biggest indicator of the fact that Rocks had a Devil Fruit is that he was implied to be stronger than Roger and Whitebeard at one point. Whitebeard was Rocks's very own subordinate, while Roger was his biggest adversary. But, if Roger had Haki far stronger than his, then he'd be considered stronger, that is, unless Xebec had a Devil Fruit power.

He was Roger's first and most fierce rival. — Sengoku

The same logic applies to Whitebeard as well. In terms of Haki, Roger was definitely stronger than Whitebeard, but the Gura Gura no Mi made up for the difference and these two were equals.

Rocks most likely had an overpowered Devil Fruit to make up for the difference in strength and possibly even surpass Roger, which is likely how he surpassed most.

When I was a kid, I thought to myself: man I would love to draw a manga with the most hyped final stage! I wonder if I'm up to it! Now, we have only a tiny bit of Wano arc left, the preparations are almost done. Took me 25 years lol. That said, it's fine if you start reading from this point on. Because from this point on...it'll be... The ONE PIECE!! The mysteries of this world, I'll be drawing all of them! It'll be super interesting! Fasten your seatbelt! And please stay with me for a bit longer! — Eiichiro Oda, Author of One Piece, 2022

Which Devil Fruit Did Rocks Have?

At this point in time, it isn't clear what Devil Fruit Rocks had. But, it could be the Yami Yami no Mi, or possibly even something like the Ope Ope no Mi or the Mera Mera no Mi. It could also be something that Oda hasn't revealed to the fans yet, and that would be exciting as well.

One Piece Chapter 1156 will be out this week. As usual, One Piece is going to drop on Sunday. In Japan, One Piece drops at 12AM JST on Monday. However, the vast majority of international readers will see the chapter available on August 3. The official release date of One Piece Chapter 1156 is August 3, 2025.
