More specifically, fans have finally seemingly found an answer to one of their many questions pertaining to Kaido and his origins. Since Kaido's true origins were never focused upon in the story, fans always knew that bits and pieces would be revealed at some point later down the line. The Final Saga has done just that, and given fans an answer to where he comes from and what he truly is.

Kaido's Tremendous Strength And The Secrets Behind It

  • Kaido Was Always A Confusing Specimen
  • Kaido's Strength Is Massive Even Without His Devil Fruit

When Kaido was first introduced to the fans in chapter 795 of One Piece, it was a shocking sight for all to see, primarily because Kaido actually looked like a monstrous creature. Both the anime and the manga made him seem invincible and someone not even human, even though his appearance was clearly humanoid. The fact that Kaido was called the strongest creature alive instead of human further backed up that idea. His size was astonishing, and fans could easily tell that he was even taller than Whitebeard, who himself was quite freakishly tall. Yet, Kaido was even bigger, and most of all, Kaido had two massive horns. Clearly, no human in the One Piece world would have horns, unless the horns themselves came from the Devil Fruit abilities.

Kaido's Devil Fruit abilities were those of an Azure Dragon, and it made him a ferociously powerful individual. But even without his Devil Fruit, in his plain human form, Kaido was strong enough to destroy his enemies within a single swing of his club. Clearly, his strength was monstrous and far too great for him to be a simple human.

To make matters more intriguing, Kaido was never truly confirmed to be human, and there is a reason for that. If he was human, Oda would've clearly revealed it in the story, or in the Vivre Cards, but he chose not to do it. Now, fans clearly know why that is the case.

Kaido And The Oni Race— The Secret Is Finally Made Clear

Kaido Called Himself An Oni, And Now Fans Know Why

Fans were always strong believers in the idea that Kaido wasn't exactly human. There were many exciting ideas out there, some that suggested that Kaido was from the Oni race, and others that suggested that Kaido was actually a dragon who ate the Oni fruit. Some hilarious ones even claimed Kaido to be a Poneglyph. All the ideas were intriguing, but in the end a clue was given to the fans when Kaido battled against none other than Yamato. Fans know Yamato to have the same freakish strength as Kaido, and be oversized as well. Yamato too carries horns, and whatever Kaido is, Yamato is as well. Interestingly enough, when these two fought atop Onigashima, Kaido clearly told Yamato that friendship with humans was worthless because of the Oni blood that they carried. This was the first confirmation from Oda that there was a key distinction between humans and the race of Kaido.

You have the blood of the Oni. You aren't meant to be friends with humans. – Kaido

When I was a kid, I thought to myself: Man I would love to draw a manga with the most hyped final stage! I wonder if I'm up to it! Now, we have only a tiny bit of Wano arc left, the preparations are almost done. Took me 25 years lol. That said, it's fine if you start reading from this point on, Because from this point on...it'll be...(the) One Piece!! The mysteries of this world, I'll be drawing all of them! It'll be super interesting! Fasten your seatbelt! And please stay with me for a bit longer! – Oda

Fans Naturally expected Oda to reveal the answer to this mystery at some point in the Wano Country Arc, but this answer never truly came. Even when Kaido was beaten, and the postwar celebrations were held, fans never saw any confirmation from Oda about the race of Kaido and Yamato. Now, however, the final saga seems to have clarified things to the fans.

Kaido And Yamato Have The Blood Of The Ancient Giants

Horns Are A Sign Of Ancient Giant Blood

In the Elbaf arc of One Piece, Oda has essentially solved one of the biggest mysteries to the fans pertaining to Kaido, and that is his true origins. Kaido is, as fans expected, not human. Although he certainly does look like part human, Kaido's true origins are far more special. Kaido clearly carries the blood of the Ancient Giants. In Elbaf, it was revealed that Loki and Harald both carried the blood of the Ancient Giants, which is why they had horns in the first place. Harald wasn't fond of them, but Loki certainly was. Fans were wondering for the longest time where Loki's horns came from, and now they have their answer. While Giants and Ancient Giants aren't exactly the same, it wouldn't have been uncommon for them to mate in the past, given the offspring's mixed features. One such striking feature is the horns. Now, this doesn't necessarily mean that Loki's grandparents were Ancient Giants. It simply means that their blood has been passed down from generation and has continued to be passed down, granting special strength to those who have it.

The same can be said for humans. Those who, somehow, mated with Ancient Giants (which shouldn't be impossible, given that Big Mom had children with Tontatta), likely gave rise to a mix of two races where the child had a humanoid body but Ancient Giant-like features, such as a massive size, horns, freakish strength, among other things. At some point, Kaido most definitely inherited the blood of the Ancient Giants, and now, this blood is carried by Yamato as well, which is where the name Oni Princess comes from.

Hopefully, Oda will elaborate upon this exciting idea more in the future of One Piece, but for now, at the very least, a very massive mystery seems to have finally been solved. How this affects the plot in the future remains to be seen, but it is sure to be significant, especially since it has only now become of importance in the Final Saga.

One Piece is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus apps. The release date for the next chapter of One Piece, One Piece 1137, is set to be January 26, 2025.
