One Piece: A Straw Hat Pirate Is Getting His Own Spin-Off
A new One Piece spin off has been revealed. It revolves around a beloved Straw Hat pirate.
Now, it has officially been confirmed that Brook and Gunko are indeed connected, and the bond they have is shocking. Oda has yet to go into full detail about Brook and Gunko's true past, but he has already revealed a part of the big truth long ago in the Thriller Bark arc of One Piece.
Brook's Past Before The Rumbar Pirates
- Brook Served The Rumbar Pirates Long Ago
- Brook Was A Leader Of A Battle Convoy Of A Certain Kingdom Before That
Fans know Brook's past, which connects him to Laboon, very well. Around 50 years ago, Brook served as a member of the Rumbar Pirates and they sailed the Grand Line for quite a while. Brook served under Captain Yorkie, but after he was allowed to sail through the Calm Belt, he became the captain of the crew. Brook even died and came back, thanks to the Yomi Yomi no Mi, and that's why he's a skeleton.
Long ago, I served in as the leader of the battle convoy of a certain kindgom. - Brook
But, before Brook even joined the Rumbar Pirates, he was actually a leader of a battle convoy of a kingdom. He got a formal education there, and at the same time, he also went on to learn the art of fighting. It is during this time that Brook went on to meet Gunko, but what exactly their relationship is remains to be seen.

How Brook And Gunko Are Connected
Gunko Is A Former Princess Of The Kingdom
One Piece chapter 1149 confirmed to the fans that Gunko is actually a victim of brainwashing and forced control. She has suppressed memories that should've been erased. After seeing Colon scream out for her father, Gunko's own memories awakened. Fans saw the day Gunko was screaming for her father to save him as she was being taken away, likely by the Celestial Dragons.
Brook? You're Brook, right? - Gunko
Fans also saw Brook being very close to the princess when she was young. It is highly likely that Brook used to sing for her back then and she loved his music. Gunko also stated that she wanted to be a pirate, but eventually, she was taken away by the World Government instead. In other words, there was a kingdom somewhere in the world for which Brook worked. The princess of that Kingdom is none other than Gunko. Brook fought the Holy Knights there and lost, and it is highly likely that the kingdom was destroyed. It is only after that Brook set out to the sea and became a pirate.
Unfortunately, fans will have to wait for quite a while to see the truth of it all. For now, Gunko is being mind-controlled by Imu. The connection between the two will need to be severed somehow in the upcoming chapters of One Piece, but that won't be possible before Luffy and the others head back to the surface.
