This post contains spoilers for One Piece.

Eiichiro Oda has been on a roll recently. The author of One Piece has been completely focused on revealing new details about the God Valley Incident, which is arguably the single most important event in the story.

The God Valley Incident took place many years prior to the current timeline, but it has long-lasting effects on the world. Recently, Oda revealed that God Valley was the home of Davy D. Xebec, one of the greatest pirates in One Piece history. In addition to this particular detail, Oda also disclosed an important piece of information regarding Blackbeard's mother.

Blackbeard's Mother Was From Ohara

Blackbeard May Have Ties With Ohara

  • Blackbeard's mother may have been from Ohara
  • Blackbeard and his mother were enslaved during the God Valley Incident

In One Piece Chapter 1160, Blackbeard and his mother made their appearance yet again. Previously, fans had only seen a young Blackbeard whimpering with fear, but this time, his mother was also shown. At the first glimpse, Blackbeard's mother seems to share some facial similarities with Nico Robin and Nico Olvia, both of whom hailed from Ohara. In particular, her eyes and nose are quite akin to Robin and Olvia.

According to Eiichiro Oda, Blackbeard's hobby is gambling and historical research. The people who hailed from Ohara were extremely knowledgeable. They constantly tried to learn new things and even dabbled in the forbidden. If Blackbeard's mother was from Ohara, it would make sense that she passed down the habit to her son. Another small detail that ties Blackbeard to Ohara is his hat.

As a kid, Blackbeard wore a hat that was identical to the one that Nico Olivia had. All these things strongly indicate that Blackbeard's mother was from Ohara. At the same time, these are not enough to 100% confirm the theory. So, fans should take this information with a grain of salt.

One of the biggest reveals in One Piece is linked to Rocks D. Xebec and his lineage. For years, fans have been led to believe that the legendary pirate's actual name was Rocks D. Xebec, but recently, Oda confirmed that Xebec was a member of the Davy clan, which was considered an enemy of the Celestial Dragons. The Davy Clan was hounded for centuries, which almost led to its extinction. During the time of the God Valley Incident, there were only a handful of Davy clansfolk remaining.

The Celestial Dragons despised them for the same reasons as the Buccaneers—they posed a threat to their authority. So, the Celestial Dragons did what they do best and ruthlessly murdered them. It was the main reason why Xebec hid his identity from the World Government, because he did not want them to chase him.

Since Blackbeard is Xebec's son, he obviously shares the same bloodline. Some fans have even suggested that Blackbeard's Davy lineage is what enabled him to eat two Devil Fruits without any repercussions. At the moment, it's merely speculation, so readers will have to wait for Oda to confirm it.

Aside from Blackbeard having a special lineage, the confirmation of him being the son of Xebec puts a lot of things in a new light. Considering he named his ship the Saber of Xebec, it's quite apparent that Blackbeard adores his late father and likely wants to imitate him. Blackbeard also took down Ochoko, whom many believe to be the traitor in the Rocks Pirates. If there is some truth to it, then it would make sense for Blackbeard to go after the person who betrayed his father. By beating Ochoko, Blackbeard also took control of Hachinosu, the island that used to be under Xebec's control.

Another thing that is clear now is that Blackbeard likely wants to take over the world because of Xebec, who had the same goal before he was beaten by Roger and Garp. Blackbeard has planned everything meticulously to avoid ending up in the same position as his father. He has already taken massive strides towards his goal, and it will be worth seeing if he can succeed where his father failed.
