One Piece: Oda Officially Reveals The 4 Nikas Of The One Piece World 

The Sun God Nika is a very important figure in the world of One Piece, known to have existed in various eras throughout history, especially when tyranny and misery across the world increase. Fans know Luffy to be the Sun God Nika of the current timeline, but he most certainly isn't the only one to have existed. In fact, Oda has, so far, revealed four Sun God Nikas in the story, most of which have existed in different eras.

Fans already know Luffy to be the Sun God Nika of the current era, and there is also Joy Boy, who existed around 800 years ago in the One Piece world as the previous Nika. Before Joy Boy, the first Nika lived around 3000 years ago, and was possibly the first Nika to exist in the One Piece world. Finally, there is another Nika that exists in the current timeline of One Piece, and that's Bon ney, who can transform into Nika, thanks to her Devil Fruit, the Toshi Toshi no Mi.

The One Piece World Has Four Different Nikas

Luffy, Joy Boy, and the First Nika Are The Main Sun Gods

Oda has, over different times, revealed four different Nika versions to the fans, and out of them all, Luffy is, undoubtedly, the most important one. Luffy became the Sun God Nika after he awakened his Devil Fruit, the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika. This Devil makes his body rubbery, and awakening it transforms him into the Warrior of Liberation. Luffy first used the power of Nika in the battle against Kaido, where he managed to defeat him for good. Since then, he's repeatedly made use of the power of Nika.

During the Void Century, Joy Boy existed as the second Nika of the world. Joy Boy ate the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, and he became the first pirate eventually. He stood up to Imu, but at the end of the Great War, Joy Boy eventually lost and died.

Centuries before Joy Boy, there existed yet another Nika, this time, the first Nika of the world. Whether this was truly the Sun God Nika or someone with a Devil Fruit is unknown. But, the first Nika most likely stemmed from Elbaf around 3000 years ago. After the destruction of the world, the first Nika also vanished.

In the Egghead arc of One Piece, Oda revealed the full capability of Bonney’s Devil Fruit to the fans, when she showed the ability to transform into a Buccaneer. Later on, when she saw Luffy taking on the Nika form, Bonney tried to copy him and ended up becoming Nika herself. In Bonney's case, she can't use the Nika form for long, but she most certainly can use this power too, being the fourth Nika of the world.

What Luffy Being Nika Means For This World Of One Piece

The Final War Is Upon The World As Nika Arrives

While the previous Nikas were important, right now, Luffy is the only one who drives the story forward as Nika. Joy Boy has already fallen, and it is time for Luffy as the third Nika to step up and fight Imu and the World Government. As mentioned by Oda in the Elbaf arc, this is the prelude to the war, and it is only a matter of time before all hell breaks loose. Luffy and his allies will fight for the freedom of the world against Imu and the World Government and whereas Joy Boy failed in the past, Luffy will, undoubtedly, succeed.
