As one of the biggest Japanese media properties of all time, it shouldn't come as a surprise that One Piece has been in the news a lot lately. A few months ago, Netflix shared some new information about the second season of the live-action One Piece TV series, which it said will be aired in 2026. Shortly afterwards, the company revealed that it was partnering up with The LEGO Group to produce LEGO sets and minifigures inspired by the sets and characters of the show. On the animation side of things, meanwhile, the One Piece anime is currently in the midst of its 21st season, and its recent episodes have been very well-received.

One other piece of One Piece-related media that has been in the headlines recently, the One Piece Card Game, isn't brought up much in mainstream gaming circles, but it's actually quite popular among the franchise's dedicated fan, base. A short while ago, it was announced that the One Piece TCG would receive a new reprint set this year in English-speaking territories. While reprints for a card game like this one are not that surprising or unusual, it's the content in this upcoming set that makes it particularly notable.

The One Piece TCG is Getting a Big Reprint Set This October

On October 3, Bandai Namco is going to release a premium booster set for the One Piece TCG called PRB-02: One Piece Card The Best Vol.2. The set's name may be a bit of a mouthful, but it's actually going to be pretty game-changing for many One Piece TCG fans. Despite it being a reprint set, PRB-02 is going to feature some new cards, as well as new parallel art versions, DON!! Variants, and new foiling. More importantly, though, it will contain popular cards from many of the earlier sets that have been released in the years since the One Piece Card Game's 2022 debut. Some of the cards featured in PRB-02 are highly sought-after in the One Piece community, so the fact that they're being reprinted means that they'll be easier to obtain than ever before.

Bandai has confirmed that several staples of the One Piece TCG meta, like Boa Hancock, Cavendish, and Sanji, will appear in PRB-02. Perhaps the most notable card in the set that's getting a reprint, though, is Monkey D. Luffy (061). This card originally appeared in the Extra Booster: Anime 25th Collection (EB-02) set, which was released just a few months ago in commemoration of (as its name suggests) the One Piece anime's 25th anniversary. Despite being a relatively new card, it has spiked in value on the secondhand market, in part due to its viability in the competitive scene. The alternate art version of Monkey D. Luffy (061), in particular, is currently retailing for about $65 on sites like TCGPlayer.

Cards Like Monkey D. Luffy (061) Are Going to Become a Lot Cheaper Thanks to This Reprint

Although many of the older cards that will be featured in PRB-02 are pretty pricey at the moment, their prices will likely drop significantly by the time the set actually comes out. The mere announcement of this reprint set, in fact, has already caused cards like Monkey D. Luffy (061) to lose over $25 in retail value. Thanks to PRB-02, players will no longer have to break the bank in order to get some of the cards that they want in their collection.

Aside from reduced prices, the release of this One Piece TCG reprint set will have one other big benefit for players: it will prevent certain cards from being rotated out in the future. Bandai announced a short while ago that, for the first time ever, cards from old sets will be removed from the One Piece Card Game's Standard rotation after April 2026. In spite of this, however, the cards that will be featured in PRB-02 will still remain tournament-legal for the foreseeable future, regardless of when they originally made their debuts in the game. In other words, One Piece TCG players won't have to worry about them becoming unviable for competitive play anytime soon.
