This article contains spoilers for the One Piece series.
With the release of every new One Piece volume, fans await the exciting reveal of Eiichiro Oda's SBS section. The SBS is extra content featured in each volume where Oda, the creator of One Piece, answers questions sent to him by fans. Some of these questions are just jokes, and don’t offer too much insight, but others can be major lore or information reveals. The newest SBS definitely delivered, and it just confirmed one of the biggest One Piece theories around.
Say Hello To Sanji's New Haki In One Piece
Sanji is gaining a major power boost in One Piece in the form of a new Haki.
Previously hinted at in the Vivre Card a while ago, it’s now official that Queen the Plague is the father of the Straw Hat Pirate, Franky. Queen is the man who abandoned Franky long ago, as seen in Water 7, and it’s definitely a shame to many fans that the two of them never got to meet in Wano.
Oda Officially Confirms Queen Being Franky’s Father In SBS Volume 113
- Vivre Cards Hinted At It
- Oda’s Newest SBS Confirms It
Over a year ago, in September 2024, a new batch of Vivre Cards dropped. Fans were quick to skim through them in search of any big reveal about the series, and sure enough, a huge hint was left by Oda's editors in there. While it wasn’t explicitly stated, the Vivre Cards hinted at Queen from the Beast Pirates being the father of Franky.
Their connection was quite obvious through the given dates. The Vivre Cards stated Queen had a child 36 years ago, and that when that kid turned 10, Queen abandoned him to sail with Kaido. This perfectly matches the events that unfolded with Franky. Franky is 36 years old in the story, and was found by Tom at 10.
One Piece Finally Explains Why Shanks Gave Up His Arm In The Beginning
Shanks lost his arm at the beginning, and the true reason for that has finally been revealed in One Piece.
While quite obvious, this was all just a theory for a year. But, with the release of the new SBS, Oda confirms this theory is true.
Reader: Odacchi, Heso! Are Franky and Queen father and son??
Oda: Eh.....! Oh no... They’ve noticed! They must’ve seen it in the One Piece Encyclopedia – Vivre Card that the year Queen’s child was born matches the year Franky was born! And the year Queen abandoned his child also matches the year Franky was taken in by Tom!! Readers knowing something the characters themselves don’t would be weird... I’ll have to bluff my way out of this one…
N... Nyo they’re... Nyot...!!!
The Vivre Cards Aren't a Trustworthy Source Of Information
- Oda Doesn’t Write Them Himself
- The Vivre Cards Are Often Wrong
The Vivre Cards were indeed right about the dates concerning Franky and Queen this time around, as Franky did indeed turn out to be the child of Queen. With that being said, the Vivre Cards aren’t to be blindly trusted.
The Vivre Cards are often wrong about facts not stated in the manga. After all, they’re not written or overseen by Oda, but by his editors. His editors can get things right, but sometimes they just don’t know things.
A huge mistake that came to light from the Vivre Cards recently had to do with Katakuri. In the Vivre Cards, it was stated that Katakuri ate his Devil Fruit at age 5. However, on God Valley, it was revealed that Katakuri at 8 years old had yet to eat his Devil Fruit, and Big Mom was actually planning to feed him the Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu. Information from the Vivre Cards should be taken with a grain of salt.
