One Piece is an absolute mammoth of a series. Its anime has been airing consistently since 1999, despite a few breaks and hiatuses. This is over 25 years of content, and fans are still excited for every new episode each week. Keeping fans entertained for this long is definitely not easy. Sadly, however, One Piece isn’t generating impressive numbers on Netflix. Its most recent arc, the Egghead arc, has only generated 5.6 million views with its first half, and 2.6 million with its second, which began early this year. Meanwhile, Sakamoto Days and Demon Slayer are dominating. Sakamoto Days has 24.4 million, and Demon Slayer has amassed 19.4 million views. This might make it seem like One Piece is outclassed, but it all comes down to One Piece being the most pirated anime ever.

Demon Slayer and Sakamoto Days Have One Piece Beat On Netflix

  • Demon Slayer’s Entertainment District Arc Has 19.4 Million Views and Sakamoto Days Has 24.4 Million Views

Netflix is one of the biggest streaming platforms ever, and has, in recent years, become absolutely massive for anime as well. Fans can now find many big anime series on there, but some perform a lot better than others.

Fans would've expected One Piece to be one of the best on Netflix, but that doesn’t seem to be the case with its Egghead Island arc, which is struggling to get high numbers. The first part of Egghead generated 5.6 million views, which isn’t bad, but its second part only got 2.6 million. This is definitely underwhelming, especially when compared to Netflix’s big hits.

Netflix’s Sakamoto Days is currently the biggest anime, and it has generated 24.4 million views, which has surprised many due to its below-average anime adaptation. Aside from Sakamoto Days, Demon Slayer is, as expected, a major hit as well. Its Entertainment District act has 19.4 million views, after all. Both these series are far ahead of One Piece, which could be a concern to some fans of the series.

Demon Slayer and Sakamoto Days Are Dominating on Netflix, But One Piece is the Most Pirated Anime Ever

Piracy Has Affected One Piece’s Numbers on Platforms like Netflix and Crunchyroll

While it might seem that One Piece is not as popular as Sakamoto Days or Demon Slayer at the moment, Netflix views don’t tell the whole story. Firstly, Netflix only has a few chunks of the One Piece story, which doesn’t make it the best platform to watch One Piece. One Piece does, for example, far better on Crunchyroll, where all its episodes are available. Even there, however, it’s surpassed by series like Solo Leveling, and there’s a reason for that.

One Piece does well with legal streaming, but the truth is, most fans pirate it. One Piece is the most pirated anime ever, and this has a huge impact on its views on Netflix and Crunchyroll, of course. One Piece will remain one of the biggest anime series ever, even if that might not always be reflected on Netflix. Fans simply prefer to watch this series elsewhere. Otherwise, the views would be far higher even on Netflix.

When I was a kid, I thought to myself: man I would love to draw a manga with the most hyped final stage! I wonder if I'm up to it! Now, we have only a tiny bit of Wano arc left, the preparations are almost done. Took me 25 years lol. That said, it's fine if you start reading from this point on. Because from this point on...it'll be... The ONE PIECE!! The mysteries of this world, I'll be drawing all of them! It'll be super interesting! Fasten your seatbelt! And please stay with me for a bit longer! — Eiichiro Oda, Author of One Piece, 2022

One Piece can be watched on Crunchyroll and Netflix, where the anime is available weekly. Sakamoto Days is available on Netflix at the moment. Meanwhile, Demon Slayer recently received its Infinity Castle Movie earlier this year. Demon Slayer fans who don’t want to wait for the movies to drop can check the manga out on Manga Plus. All three manga of One Piece, Demon Slayer, and Sakamoto Days are available to read on Manga Plus. While Demon Slayer has already concluded, the other two get weekly chapters which fans can read for free.
