This article contains spoilers from One Piece's Elbaf arc.

The importance of Haki continues to grow with each passing chapter in One Piece. Introduced properly just before the timeskip of the series, Haki is an essential power that allows one to survive in the New World and fight against the absolute mightiest of individuals. Simply put, Haki is a spiritual power that can be used to enhance sensory power, boost attack and defense, and even overwhelm others in the world of One Piece. While everyone is born with Haki, not all manage to awaken it.

Over the years, Oda has revealed some very powerful Haki users to the fans, and with each passing arc, Oda continues to show the fans different usages of Haki. In the Elbaf arc of One Piece, Oda has touched upon the concept of advanced Conqueror's Haki on multiple occasions. However, even that aside, he has also shown a new form of Haki that only a handful of individuals can use in the One Piece world. Rocks D. Xebec, in particular, was the first user of a broken Haki type that blasted everything in his vicinity, even if it was launched with a sword, almost making it like a cannon fire.

One Piece's Elbaf arc finally introduced the incredible character of Rocks D. Xebec to the fans. While Rocks was mentioned first in the Wano arc, around chapter 957, he was only shown properly in Elbaf, as his relationship to King Harald and Loki was somewhat significant. Regardless, what fans were most interested in, when it comes to Rocks D. Xebec, was his incredible power.

Rocks's attacks were known to be special. They were known to hit like a hammer or cannonfire, blowing away everything that was in their path. — Narrator on Rocks's special technique

When Rocks was first mentioned, it was clearly said that he was Roger's biggest adversary, even bigger than Whitebeard, and that he was a formidable foe that required the combined effort of Garp and Roger to take down. Fans wanted to see this monstrous strength for themselves in One Piece, and that's exactly what happened in Elbaf.

Immediately upon Rocks's introduction, Oda made it extremely clear that Rocks D. Xebec had a special fighting style, and that he could use a new, unique Haki. Rocks's Haki infused attacks were special. He used his sword in battle, primarily, but more often than not, his sword didn't cut the target. Instead, attacks from his blade were such that they blasted away everything in the vicinity, causing utter chaos. Oda himself went on to confirm Rocks's sword attacks to a giant hammer or cannonfire instead of slashes. This was achieved by Rocks with Haki, and this special application of Haki is broken indeed.

Who might that be, you ask? Well, to put it simply, I'd say that's the world itself! — Rocks upon seeing Imu

Roger And Shanks Learned Rocks's Haki As Well

It is unknown how Rocks learned to use this special broken Haki fighting style. Whether there was any other user before him remains to be seen, but what fans do know is that two others ended up inheriting this power of his. Roger learned this ability as well, as is evident from his technique, called Kamusari. Right now, only one character who has this power lives in the One Piece world, and that's Shanks.

Shanks has the very same broken Haki that Rocks had, and it might just be that Luffy will gain it too, probably in Elbaf. Even though Luffy doesn't have a sword, he should be able to emulate this power with his Gomu Gomu no Mi. After all, these attacks don't cut at all. In the battle against Imu, perhaps Luffy will use it for the first time.
