One Piece is the uncontested king of manga and it has held on to this position for years. The One Piece manga is, by far, the best-selling manga series of all time, and in that regard, it’s unmatched. But of course, some other series beat it in different criteria at times. Like every year, Manga Plus dropped its highlights for its best manga in 2025. While One Piece certainly featured heavily on there, the platform’s most-read chapter has been revealed, and One Piece has officially been beaten.

Instead, Jujutsu Kaisen’s sequel, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo chapter 1, is the most-read chapter of 2025. It doesn’t even stop there as Chainsaw Man also surpassed One Piece, which is a huge shocker to many fans.

Jujustu Kaisen Modulo is clearly a huge hit on Manga Plus. It even won the title of biggest new series on the platform. Initially, its popularity was carried by hype from its monumental predecessor, but fans have grown to enjoy the series for what it is as well. Sadly, it’s already nearing its end.

One Piece Was Beaten By Jujutsu Kaisen’s Sequel

Fans are always surprised to see One Piece surpassed by other manga series. After all, when it comes to overall sales, no other manga comes close. The original Jujutsu Kaisen manga, for example, has 150 million sales total. Meanwhile, One Piece is close to 600 million already.

From now on, this will be ONE PIECE! I will draw all the mysteries left in this world that I have been hiding until now. It's going to be really interesting. Please fasten your seatbelts. Thank you so much, I hope you keep up with me a bit longer. — Eiichiro Oda, One Piece

Nonetheless, even with its huge sales numbers, One Piece isn't always the number one in everything. Manga Plus’s 2025 highlights have recently been revealed, and the number one most-read chapter wasn’t actually from One Piece. As it turns out, the most-read chapter on Manga Plus for 2025 comes from a brand new manga, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo.

Modulo carries immense hype, especially as it marked Gege’s return to manga after the end of JJK. Fans were clearly very excited to see what Gege had to deliver, and it is safe to say that they weren't disappointed at all. The debut of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo was so incredible that it left even One Piece in the dust. Fans all over the world got to read and discuss this monumental chapter, and it was quite clearly an incredible experience.

One Piece Was Also Beaten By Chainsaw Man

One Piece Was Also Beaten By Chainsaw Man
  • Chainsaw Man 198 Is the Second Most Read Chapter on Manga Plus
  • One Piece Is Third with Chapter 1161

One Piece being beaten by the return of a major manga is not the most surprising news. However, the losses don’t stop there for the franchise. One Piece was, for the second year in a row, beaten by Chainsaw Man. Chainsaw Man’s chapter 167 was the most-read chapter in 2024, and in 2025, it managed to produce the second-most-read chapter on Manga Plus.

Chainsaw Man chapter 198 beat One Piece in 2925, while the latter ended in third place with chapter 1161. This is still impressive from One Piece, but fans expected more from the God Valley chapters in terms of ranking.

  • Initially Carried By The Hype Of The Original Jujutsu Kaisen Manga
  • JJK Modulo Is The Best New Manga Of 2025

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo had a very impressive year, given that it had the most-read chapter all over the world on Manga Plus. However, it managed to achieve much more than just that. The series also became recognized as the biggest new series on the platform overall.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo had some competition from the likes of Otr of the Flame and Metaphor: ReFantazio, but it ended up dominating nevertheless.

Of course, it’s hard to deny that the reason why Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo has been so popular is thanks to its predecessor, Jujutsu Kaisen. Jujutsu Kaisen left a huge legacy behind, and fans of the series would get on board with any new project from Gege Akutami.

Dabura's cursed techniques are ---- and light. ---- is murderous intent given a tangible form — a concept that is impossible for earthlings to even describe in words — passed down through the Deskunte Tribe. — Narrator on Dabura's Cursed Technique, JJK Modulo Chapter 15.

That said, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo has its own hype. The story focuses on new characters and doesn’t rely on the return of old characters to have an interesting story. Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo stands strong as its own series as well. In fact, the series doesn't even need old characters, and that shows how strong Gege is as a writer.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Is A Hit, But It’s Ending Soon

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Is A Hit, But It’s Ending Soon

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo has proven to be insanely popular. Fans would expect nothing less from the successor of the story that was Shonen Jump’s biggest manga series last year.

However, while Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is loved globally, it’s ending soon. This isn't news to fans. When it was first announced, Gege already made it clear that Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo was going to be a short run. Fans were definitely hoping he’d change his mind, however, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

It has become very apparent that Modulo is approaching its end. The final battles of Modulo, Yuka vs Dabura, and Tsurugi vs Maru, have already started. The only thing left at this moment is Yuji’s return to take on Dabura. At most, the series has 10 to 15 more chapters in store, possibly even fewer.

At the very least, fans of Jujutsu Kaisen hope that Gege has more in store for the franchise, even after Modulo’s ending. A huge time gap has been left unexplored between Jujutsu Kaisen and Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, and that’s what fans believe Gege will dive into next. This is an exciting idea, but it remains to be seen if it will really happen, or if Modulo is the final stop for Jujutsu Kaisen.

Jujutsu Kaisen's sequel, called Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, runs in the Weekly Shonen Jump Magazine. The series is set 68 years into the future, after the events of Shinjuku Showdown. The main characters of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo are Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu, the grandchildren of Yuta and Maki. Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 17 will be released on January 4, 2026. The release time of the chapter is midnight JST, or 11:00 AM ET (8:00 AM PT). Fans can read the chapter for free on Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump app.
