These mysteries and questions are crucial to the series as a whole since they create a ton of intrigue among the fans, forcing them to scan every single panel with a lot of scrutiny to pick up on any subtle hints that Oda may have left only for the most eagle-eyed viewers.

Among these mysteries, one of the greatest pertains to the truth of the D. Clan and the meaning behind the Will of D. These things have existed from the early days of One Piece, but fans have only ever gotten very vague hints as to what they could mean, with no concrete details ever being given. Chapter 1155 has already gone down in the history books as one of the best chapters in all of One Piece. This is because it finally showed why the legendary Rocks D. Xebec is considered to be the greatest pirate of all time, as well as revealing insane details regarding him and the state of the world decades before the start of the main story. However, all it took was a single text box from the narrator to throw the entire fandom into a frenzy.

In one of the most insane feats of strength and resolve that have ever been shown, Rocks somehow managed to break into the Chamber of Flowers within Pangea Castle to confront Imu, showing that there is much more to this villain than previously thought since he somehow knew about the room and Imu, both of which are supposed to be kept a secret from the world. The main detail about this confrontation came in the text box which stated that Rocks was a 'Davy Jonesian' pirate, a term which has never been heard before in all of One Piece.

Although much of the fandom is perplexed about what this could mean, a few believe that this is the true meaning behind the D. Clan, with the D. Standing for 'Davy Jones'. This opens up many possibilities for the lore of One Piece, with one of the more popular theories stating that Joyboy's real name was Davy Jones, and that it is his will that has been disseminated throughout the centuries to some of the most important characters in history.

It should be noted that Davy Jones does canonically exist within the series as a pirate from ancient times who was so greedy and hoarded so much treasure that he was cursed to live eternally on the sea floor. Purveyors of this theory believe that Joyboy's real name was actually Davy Jones, which was spread across the world due to the fame he gained from being the first pirate in history.

The main character of this story was born into a kingdom with an impossibly advanced civilization, 900 years ago... His name was Joyboy. And he was the very first man on this sea to be called a pirate!

However, eventually, the World Government began to control the narrative, as it has shown to do with just about everything else. Because of this, the fame of Davy Jones may have been turned to infamy in order to keep the memory of Joyboy in a negative light, since they could have found out that the legend of this character is impossible to erase. This could explain Imu paying attention to Rocks as soon as he entered the Chamber of Flowers, since they knew only a member of this legendary line could possibly know about them.

Moreover, on a meta level, the myths of Joyboy and Davy Jones seem to line up as well. In the real world, Davy Jones is arguably the most famous myth regarding piracy throughout all of history, whereas Joyboy offers the exact same role within the context of the One Piece story. So, it's very possible that Oda is drawing parallels here, so it likely means that all those who belong to the D. Clan are the descendants of Joyboy and his crew.

There May Be Yet Another Possibility That Could Be Just As Interesting

An Alternative Will of D.

There could be a different Will of D. For evil members of the D. Clan.

Alternatively, another very cool and likely possibility could be that there are two different versions of the Will of D. This goes back to the First World and the legend of Nika on Elbaf, where the Giants claim there to be two different versions of the Sun God; one who is a liberator and the other who is a destroyer. Along with this, there is a massive emphasis on rivals in One Piece, where the most important figures of an age, namely Luffy, Joyboy, and Roger, have someone who is the exact opposite, like Blackbeard, Imu, and Rocks, respectively.

If this is the case, then it could be that there was someone who fit this role for the original Nika in the First World who was the exact opposite of the Sun God. The theory states that this was Davy Jones, and their will is passed down through the line of Rocks and Blackbeard. Another theory states that Davy Jones was originally a member of Joyboy's crew but one who defected, and his line is continued through these two villains today.
