Summary

  • Loki, the long-awaited Prince of Elbaf, killed his father for a legendary Devil Fruit.
  • Theories suggest Loki's Devil Fruit may be a Mythical Zoan type, possibly rivaling Luffy's Nika Fruit.
  • If the fight between Loki and Luffy were to happen, it could be on an equal footing due to the legendary nature of their Devil Fruits.

In perhaps the greatest character reveal in all of One Piece, Chapter 1130 of the manga finally showed the long-awaited Prince Loki of Elbaf. This character was first mentioned during the events of Wholecake Island, so fans had been anticipating the official introduction of the prince of One Piece's mightiest kingdom. However, when the story finally made its way to Elbaf, no one could have expected that Loki would be so fierce in his design and so imposing in his aura.

Aside from his spectacular appearance, Loki was also said to have killed his father to obtain a legendary Devil Fruit that was passed through the royal line of Elbaf. While nothing is currently known of this Devil Fruit, it is implied that this is one that may even just rival Luffy's Nika Fruit, so let's go over what it may be and how it can possibly match up to Luffy's legendary Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika.

Loki

Before anyone can even speak about how Loki's Devil Fruit can match up to Luffy's Gear 5, the power of the fruit itself must first be established. Currently, however, nothing is known about this fruit, only that it is a legendary one passed down the royal line of Elbaf to all those who would be king, so there are only a few theories about what powers it may possess.

The first, and most commonly believed, of these is that this fruit is a Mythical Zoan type known as the Hebi Hebi no Mi, Model: Jormungandr. There are a few symbolic references to why this may be, specifically the fact that in Norse Mythology, Jormungandr and Loki share a very close tie and that Loki wants to bring about the end of the world, which is something that Jormungandr also does.

I am the Sun God who will bring about the end of the world!

Moreover, a theory has circulated among the fandom regarding so-called 'God Fruits', where a panel from Skypiea is used as a reference point to talk about various Gods. This was the first mention of the Sun God, which was eventually confirmed with Nika. Keeping this in mind, there is also a mention of an Earth God, which could very well be Jormungandr, considering how the serpent is coiled around the Earth in Norse Mythology and the act of uncoiling himself is what causes world's destruction.

Moreover, other theories regarding this legendary Devil Fruit being a Mythical Zoan also exist, with one that states that it's the Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Fenrir, seeing as how Loki is chained up in the freezing outskirts of Elbaf, similar to how Fenrir is chained in Norse Mythology and is also another child of Loki. The last theory regarding Loki's Fruit being a Mythical Zoan is that it is the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Elbaf, the monumental giant modeled after the God of the land. The theory states that the massive sword on Elbaf actually belonged to this God.

However, if Mythical Zoans aren't to be believed, this fruit could be some other kind, although just another Logia type wouldn't live up to such a legend. So, this only leaves this Devil Fruit to be a Paramecia type, which could give Loki the power to change or bend reality to a certain extent, which is also contextually supported, namely because of how Loki's appearance seemingly changed from his first mention to his demeanor as well. Loki is known as the God of Mischief, so the power to bend reality and change it to his will is possible too.

How Loki Could Fight Against Luffy

Could These Powers Stop Gear 5?

One Piece Sun God Loki Vs Sun God Nika luffy

The hypothetical battle between these two characters is currently impossible to quantify simply because the true strength of both sides of this fight remains a mystery. Not only is nothing known about Loki's fruit, but the true extent of Gear 5's abilities is also unknown since Luffy has never gone all out while using the form, only that it was difficult for him to damage the 5 Elders.

Despite this, however, one can speculate. If Loki's fruit is actually one of the previously mentioned ones as the theories suggest, then the fight could be on a far more equal footing than Luffy's fights against Kaido or Lucci. Throughout the entire One Piece story, only 2 Devil Fruits have ever been called legendary; Luffy's Nika Fruit and whatever Loki's own might be, so it goes to show that they might just be on a similar level.

His desperate desire for a legendary Devil Fruit passed down through the Elbaf royal line led him to kill his father, King Harald, and eat the fruit!

If it does end up being one of the other 3 'God Fruits' from the Skypiea panel, then Luffy truly has his work cut out for him. This is mainly because the abilities of the other God Fruits could be close to his own, so they would likely be on a relative level of power and would have similar abilities, leading to the fight between him and Loki being equal. Similarly, if Loki's fruit is the reality-bending Paramecia, or something along those lines, then Luffy would likely be in for his toughest battle yet.
