The One Piece series is filled with incredible Devil Fruit abilities that Oda has sprinkled across the many arcs. While some Devil Fruits are insanely overpowered, others are quite average. At the beginning of One Piece, Devil Fruits were rather weak, but over time, Oda has been revealing one powerful fruit after another, and the strongest Devil Fruit of them all is the Yami Yami no Mi, or the darkness devil fruit. The main reason Oda refers to it as the strongest Devil Fruit is its ability to dominate all other Devil Fruits.

It’s currently in the possession of none other than Blackbeard. While Blackbeard is the only confirmed user, Oda has already strongly hinted at the previous known user, and it’s none other than Davy D. Jones, Blackbeard’s own ancestor from the Void Century.

Davy D. Jones Was A Legendary Devil Fruit User From The Void Century

Blackbeard, also known by many as Marshall D. Teach, is one of the most crucial characters in the overarching plot of One Piece. Now that the story is in the Final Saga, Blackbeard’s importance is only growing, especially with the newest Elbaf flashback that exposes many truths about him and his heritage.

As is clear in the story, Blackbeard is the only person in the world of One Piece to possess not one, but two Devil Fruits. One of these Devil Fruits, which was also his first, is none other than the Yami Yami no Mi. This darkness Devil Fruit is overpowered and even has the power to cancel out other Devil Fruits’ abilities. When Blackbeard fought Ace, Oda referred to this fruit as the strongest ability of all.

Blackbeard is officially the only known user of this fruit, but Oda has made it quite obvious in Elbaf that the previous user of it was none other than Davy D. Jones, Blackbeard’s ancestor. Davy D. Jones lived during the Void Century and was most certainly a big rival to Joy Boy, and an enemy to Imu. Their dynamic would mirror Luffy and Blackbeard currently. Davy D. Jones possessing this fruit would also explain why Blackbeard wanted it so badly, and more than that, why this fruit eventually found him. The fruit is more special than it seems right now, and Teach knows it.

The Yami Yami no Mi Is Essential In The Final Saga of One Piece

The Yami Yami no Mi isn’t only the strongest Logia Devil Fruit, but quite easily the strongest among all Devil Fruit abilities, and it is essential to One Piece’s final battle against Imu. Oda recently strongly hinted that the Yami Yami no Mi, alongside Luffy’s fruit, the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, are both needed to take down the World Government. At least, this is what Rocks D. Xebec thought, and he definitely had knowledge passed on from his ancestor from the Void Century.

Its importance when it comes to beating Imu is quite clear. This fruit can cancel out all the other Devil Fruit powers, which means that it should also be able to cancel out Imu's ability. As things stand, Imu's power is the strongest in all of One Piece as it can turn others into their slaves. On top of that, Imu is also immortal, likely due to the Devil Fruit’s ability, and if this fruit's ability is cancelled, then not only Imu, but all those who carry the Covenants, will be affected by Blackbeard's ability.

Allow Mu to show thee the dominance of a God! — Imu, Elbaf Arc

The entirety of the World Government can be taken down in one fell swoop, and that is what makes it the most dangerous power to ever exist. Even in a battle against Nika, this Devil Fruit is going to be deadly, as it will simply prevent Luffy from accessing the power of Gear 5 — reducing him to his weakest state. Without a doubt, this Devil Fruit is one of One Piece's most dangerous, if not outright the strongest.

The newest manga chapter, One Piece 1174 will be released on February 15, 2026, on MangaPlus.
