Kaido Showed His True Power in Wano
Kaido was the captain of the Beast Pirates, and was certainly one of the most powerful characters seen in all of One Piece. Right from the get-go, fans knew that Kaido was one of the Yonko, which in of itself goes to show just how strong he was, as only the strongest pirates can make it to that rank.
Kaido has many powerful abilities. Firstly, he has one of the best Devil Fruits in the series - Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu, also known as the Azure Dragon Fruit. But that aside, Kaido also possessed great Haki, being able to use all three kinds with great proficiency.
So far in the story, Kaido has definitely been the deadliest opponent ever faced by Luffy. Luffy was defeated four times by Kaido before he was able to take the upper hand, and he was only able to do that by unlocking his most powerful form yet — Gear 5.
Kaido is Strong, But Prime Gaban Was Even Stronger
Gaban’s Conqueror’s Haki is Far More Advanced
While Kaido is definitely powerful, Oda has recently revealed a new character who could potentially take him down, and that character is none other than Scopper Gaban.
Many fans might be skeptical of that, but Oda has already revealed that both Gaban and Rayleigh were on the tier of Roger, who should have definitely been stronger than Kaido in his prime.
It’s also important to note that Gaban has something that Kaido hasn't shown — advanced forms of Conqueror’s Haki. Gaban has showcased that he has even more advanced Conqueror’s Haki than just Infusion during the Elbaf arc where he was able to bypass the immortality of Holy Knight Sommers and take him down in just a few attacks.

Kaido has never shown the ability to use this type of Conqueror’s Haki, which definitely puts him at a disadvantage, especially against someone as powerful as Prime Gaban.
Kaido doesn’t really have anything Haki-wise that puts him above Gaban. The only advanced form of Observation Haki fans have seen from Kaido is Future Sight, and fans know that Gaban can use this ability, and far better, possibly even better than Kaido as Gaban seems to be especially specialized in its usage. For someone standing shoulder to shoulder with Roger, being stronger than Kaido isn't much trouble at all.
